It's a marketing thing. The movie was originally called Leaf Men, named after the book the movie is based on, The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. The marketing department decided to rename it to Epic (stylised as 'epic'). Who knows why? They probably thought this title would sell better. The director disliked the renaming.
