Back to work

The last episode to be shot entirely on videotape and as a Christmas special not very festive at all. Then again the over-lit video look was not beneficial to the old dears and it is also clear it was shot in summer.

Tom Owen (Bill's son) turns up as a bank customer who gets hassled by Foggy. He would return some years later as a series regular as Compo's long lost son.

The episode itself is a throwback to the the early days with Blamire when they would at times look for work. As Compo shows an unhealthy interest in a lady traffic warden, Foggy decides they should be looking for a job that requires a uniform. They even go to a library to look for vacancies. It must be the first time they have returned there since the days of Blamire. I would have loved to see Wainwright the randy socialist librarian but Blake Butler the actor who played him died some years earlier.

Foggy gets Compo to dress up as a courier on a bicycle but as that is a bit of a push at his age, he gets him a motorbike but he cannot stay on the motorbike.

A disappointment as a Christmas special because it was just a run of the mill episode.
