Tricky

Tricky one to assess this.

The second half is fine, culminating in Foggy & Compo getting ratty with each other, deciding to have a duel and ending up getting stuck up a tree (each). Plus some discussion of Compo hang gliding.

The first half includes some business with making Compo "look Japanese" (using Clegg's specs & a couple of buns) which would have been "all in good fun" at the time but is a bit cringey nowadays.

Not a classic episode & mostly build up for the next part.

It is interesting (slightly) to see the cafe boasting a microwave in 1979. It would have been an expensive item. No wonder they've got a duff one.

Turning Japanese

Compo wants to impress Nora Batty by going hand gliding but more of that in the next episode as this is the first of a two parter.

The episode opens with the trio reminiscing about the past. Rolling down the hill with a girl and Foggy having sheep droppings shoved up his nostrils.

Back in the cafe, Sid is trying to mend a microwave. Not sure why he would mess around with one in those in the early days of the microwave in the late 1970s. Wally decides to help out as the alternative is to sit and talk to Nora who has dropped by as Wally is not taking her out enough.

Back in the cafe, Compo gets all kamikaze, Foggy ends up buying a round for all the regulars in the pub and then Foggy and Compo get stuck in a tree as they try to see who can climb the highest.

It very much feels like a filler episode. Compo clowns around with a pair of thick glasses looking Japanese.
