A Lot Goes Into Making These Items
ccthemovieman-15 April 2008
The four items discussed in this episode were ambulances, dining room tables, diatonic accordions and acrylic awards. This is probably typical of this show (this was my first look at it) but I was amazed how much went into building each object. That's probably the case with everything they show on this series, which looks like a good one to me.

It's no surprise that a lot goes into making an ambulance. The beginnings are just one of several types of vehicles but then it's almost going from scratch as complicated electrical systems are added as well as a new roof and ton of other things. I found it interesting how the stretcher is locked into position. The most important element in the truck-makeover? Stabilizing bars. You have to have a smooth ride!

The dining room tables were just beautiful. Sanding is a key to them as the slightest imperfection will show up if everything isn't smoothed out.

These accordions were small ones that are used mainly in Cajun music. After seeing the meticulous work that went into inserting the reeds, bellows, keys (actually buttons), etc., I can understand why they cost $2.500 apiece.

The acrylic awards are those clear-looking futuristic sculptures that companies give out as awards these days (in place of the old "gold watch" for retirees, or whatever). These things are beautiful and unique works of art. Each one is very different and it was interesting to see the different processes in converting the acrylic liquid slowly into a hard object.
