Cooper will play Latif Yahia, “a dead ringer for Saddam Hussein’s sadistic and widely despised son Uday who was forced against his will to stand in for Uday in potentially dangerous situations.” Through his access, Yahia gained access to Hussein’s inner sanctum and witnessed terrible corruption, violence and nuttiness.

Lee Tamahori (Die Another Day) will direct from a script that Michael Thomas adapted.
Last month, while promoting his latest film, An Education, in the U.K., Cooper talked about the rumored prequel to Mamma Mia. “Unfortunately you say sequel, I’ve heard a terrible similar word beginning with a ‘p’, which absolutely outs my existence in it whatsoever, »

I don’t know about you, but I remember chain letters being huge when I was about nine or ten years old. You know how they go: You get a letter, it tells you a story of some sort, then advises you to pass the letter on to a certain number of friends or have bad luck.
People rarely ever take these letters (or in today’s technology based society, e-mails) seriously, but next year we may feel more inclined to do so.
New Films has picked up the rights to Chain Letter, a horror film by Deon Taylor that follows a serial killer who targets teenagers who don’t follow through on forwarding chain letters.
Chain Letter, which will star Nikki Reed, Betsy Russell, and Brad Dourif, is already being looked at as a franchise possibility. The film will be released next year, produced by Todd Slater through Slater Brothers Entertainment. »

Every so often a Hollywood celebrity will talk about quitting the business, taking time off to spend with family...or will go on late night talk shows looking disheveled and mumbling about how they're heading off on an adventure to start a musical career.
Now comes word that Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly is about to quit the biz. In an interview with the UK's Daily Mirror, Connelly revealed that after What's Wrong with Virginia? finishes shooting, she will likely not sign on for any more projects.
"The biggest thing for me is wanting my kids to grow up safely and have happy lives," said Connelly. "To me that's enough. The family is the most important thing to me. I'm very blessed. I have gorgeous, healthy, funny kids and a good husband."
Connelly's father passed away recently, prompting a very sorrowful time for the 38 year-old actress. "...I went through a really »

Overly-hyped horror flick Paranormal Activity bested its new spooky nemesis, Saw VI, to land in the No.1 spot at the box office this weekend.
In its fifth week, Paramount’s low-budget horror flick made another $22 million to earn a gross of over $60 million. Not bad for a movie that cost just $15,000 to make.
That’s bad news for Lionsgate as their latest installment in their franchise horror product came in at No.2 with $14.8 million. Is Jigsaw played out or is the media machine for Paramount working overtime?
Paramount originally released Paranormal Activity to a small selection of theaters across the country. Based on solid word-of-mouth combined with a large media campaign, a groundswell of people were told to “demand” that the film open in full release. It happened and now the little-movie-that-could has been the most talked about film since…well, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen…and for better reasons. »

From Anna Paquin's history with "X-Men" to Stephen Moyer's upcoming turn in "Priest" — not to mention Alexander Skarsgård's near-miss with "Thor" — the cast of "True Blood" is starting to realize that as cool as vampires are, nothing beats the comic book scene.
Now, it appears that Ryan Kwanten — who plays the dim-witted Jason Stackhouse on the HBO vampire drama — is getting in on the action, as Moviehole reports that the Australian-born actor is shooting a superhero romantic comedy in Sydney titled "Griff the Invisible."
Not only does the film mark Kwanten's first official foray into the world of superheroes — though it's not the first time his name has appeared on Splash Page — it's also the directorial debut for the film's writer-director Leon Ford.
Speaking with Moviehole, Ford described "Griff" as a cross between the superhero and comedy genres, with a central romantic subplot focusing on "two very »

The Hollywood vampire craze is leaking into comic book territory with the upcoming movie "Priest," an adaptation of the popular manga series. The film already has "Twilight" and "True Blood" credibility thanks to performances from Cam Gigandet and Stephen Moyer, but there's a sci-fi veteran is bringing a little bit of space into the movie as well.
Karl Urban, who played Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" last summer, is set for the villainous role of Black Hat, the leader of a pack of vampires that abduct the niece of the titular warrior priest and vampire hunter played by Paul Bettany.
Urban spoke out about his involvement in the film during a recent interview with Collider, describing the film as a mixture of all sorts of genres.
"I'm currently shooting a really wicked film called 'Priest,'" Urban said. "It's this really cool, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, »

This past weekend, Spike TV held their annual Scream Awards (more on that later today), at the event the folks at Collider got the chance to talk to “Star Trek” and “Priest” actor, Karl Urban. The obvious topic on their fanboy lips was of course, Star Trek 2.
Urban starred in this year’s J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek as Leonard “Bones” McCoy, so who better to ask about part 2 right? According to Collider:
Urban said “It would be great to have another Star Trek out for 2011.” He explained a script is in the works and that co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman expect a draft to be completed by December. As far as details are concerned, Urban is just as anxious to see where the second film will take the crew of the USS Enterprise as we are.
Well I’m glad to hear it! Given the fan reaction »

At tonight’s 2009 Scream Awards (airing on Spike TV October 27th) I was able to interview a number of people on the red carpet. While I already posted my interview with Jackie Earle Haley talking about the Sinestro rumor, I also got to speak with Karl Urban and was able to get an update on the “Star Trek” sequel and “Priest”. According to Karl, the plan is still for a draft of the screenplay to be turned into the studio this December and he hopes to be filming mid to late next year. He said the hope is for the sequel to be released in 2011. And for fans of “Priest”, he talked about how that movie has been going. Watch what he had to say after the jump.
Before watching the interview…know I didn’t have a camera person helping me tonight. So if the framing isn’t perfect… »

Paul Bettany could have a good 2010 on the horizon. For that matter, so could director Scott Stewart. They've teamed up for Legion, due out in January, and Priest, coming next October. One's a vampire movie and the other deals with the apocalypse. Based on the fact that Bettany's wearing wings in this poster, which one do you think Legion is?
If you guessed vampire, please try again. Legion is one of those apocalypse movie that has some stuff foretold in the Bible, or that's the story. Bettany stars opposite Dennis Quaid and several others, although at Comic Con, all we really saw was a teaser poster featuring Bettany as the angel Michael.
Bettany et al are featured in these new character posters that were premiered at JoBlo. I guess technically it's a character banner, since all the shots go in sequence and work collectively. You can see the full thing over at JoBlo, »

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Bold Films has picked up the action-thriller “Psy-Ops” from Scott Stewart and Gus Krieger. Stewart, who is directing the live-action adaptation of the manga series “Priest”, co-developed the initial story with Krieger, who will write the script for the film. Stuart Maschwitz is directing. Maschwitz co-founded the VFX company the Orphanage with Stewart. “Psy-Ops” revolves around a covert U.S. military unit of operatives who employ psychological warfare tactics against targets, exploiting their deepest, darkest fears. But when in the Amazon on an assignment, the group discovers something more terrifying than they could have imagined in the jungle with them. Stewart is producing alongside [...] »

Bold Films (The Hole) has snagged the psychological action thriller Psy-Ops, which was conceived by director Scott Stewart (Legion, Priest) and written by Gus Krieger, writer of the upcoming psychological thriller The Killing Room.
Psy-Ops will tell the tale of a covert U.S. military unit of “psychological operatives,” whose specialty is “exploiting their target’s deepest fears.” During a routine mission (funny term for a covert specialty unit) to the Amazon, the Psy-Ops discover something even They are afraid of.
At first glance I thought this film was about psychic soldiers at war (See: The Men Who Stare At Goats). On the one hand that mistaken impression seems like a much more interesting concept; on the other hand, it’s also a concept that I’ve been developing as a film-in-my-head for some time now, so I was relieved when I realized this Psy-Ops flick was about something totally »
