- Adam Baldwin has a cameo as a bodyguard being interviewed. During the interview, he comments on how stupid it is for a bodyguard to protect kids from bullies, while wearing an identical costume to the one he wore in the movie My Bodyguard (1980) where he played a bodyguard to protect a fellow student from a bully. Baldwin still owns the jacket he wore in My Bodyguard and convinced Steven Brill to let him wear it.
- This is the second movie Owen Wilson and Leslie Mann have been in together, the other being The Cable Guy (1996).
- Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck "The Iceman" Liddel makes a cameo as a potential bodyguard.
- The first (and only) time Seth Rogen has collaborated with someone other than Evan Goldberg, his regular writing partner, on a screenplay.
- A friend of Judd Apatow at Paramount told him he had a treatment that John Hughes was never able to finish a script on. He asked Seth Rogen to take a look at it. They made the movie in the tradition of a John Hughes movie.
