The excitement and adrenaline of the Octagon is about to come to your very own DVD player.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship will be releasing its best moments in a partnership with Anchor Bay Entertainment with "Ufc: Ultimate 100 Greatest Fights." The 8-disc DVD set will be released on November 10 with a numbered, limited edition collector's box. The highlights of Pay-Per-View event Ufc have previously been shown on Spike TV, but the demand from fans for the full fight experience led the establishment to manufacture "Ultimate 100 Greatest Fights."
The Top 100 fights features the best of the best in the no-holds-barred mixed martial arts bout. The championship, which traces its earliest origins to 1993, has evolved since its creation, undergoing numerous changes to the rules, format and its controversial presentation. The Octagon, the enclosure in which the battle takes place, has seen an increased usage in recent years with more and more bouts per year.

Owen Wilson Just Gives Up, Will Star in 'Marmaduke'

Hey, wait a minute...Owen Wilson's career is over? Drillbit Taylor notwithstanding, I guess I missed the official memo. I don't know what other conclusion I can draw now that I've learned he'll be part of the upcoming Marmaduke movie. I guess the only thing left is to take roles that even Robin Williams turns down.
While The Hollywood Reporter doesn't say what role Wilson will play in the film, I have a hunch it will be whatever character is the most hard-up for cash at the moment. Actually, through some other sources, it appears that he'll voice the giant Great Dane. Finally! A voice to put with Marmaduke after all these years!
But don't think The Butterscotch Stallion is alone in chasing after that Alvin & The Chipmunks kind of action: William H. Macy, Steve Coogan, Judy Greer, Emma Stone, Fergie, and the incomparable George Lopez are all involved in Marmaduke,

Justin Theroux to Bring ‘Air Guitar’ to the People

If you've ever held witness to an "air guitar" competition, then you will undoubtedly share in my excitement for this next story. In early 2007, I had the honor of catching Alexandra Lipsitz's ferociously entertaining documentary Air Guitar Nation (read my review) during its extremely limited theatrical run. Later that year, fellow Fat Guy at the Movies Kevin Carr and I attended a regional air guitar competition in Columbus, Ohio and met Dan Crane (aka rocker Bjorn Turoque, pictured above with David "C-Diddy" Jung), one of the stars of the doc. It was an energetic, rockin' affair that has stuck with me ever since. So much so that earlier this year, I decided that the most rockin' double feature of all-time would be a double-bill of Air Guitar Nation and this year's sensation Anvil! The Story of Anvil. Trust me, that two-some of rock odysseys would blow your mind.
I tell you that story to tell you

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it... deadpans a squeeky little Mathew Broderick to camera.
It's a line I've heard and read and had quoted at me since I was 10. Before we all grew up and discovered that the titular character was really nothing but an annoying, manipulative, little punk, there was something about Ferris Bueller that made every high school kid want to skip school and tell the whole world they were "Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago" at fancy restaurants.
There was always another part of me that was horribly disappointed when my own detentions didn't feature a dance off or shed any light on the jock, the cute quiet girl, the cool guy, the nerd or the priss at my own little town high school... of course, bringing Kelly Le Brock to life in

John Hughes, An Appreciation

The name John Hughes may not mean much to today's teenagers and younger kids, but to their parents he was a god, the man, the writer-director of such seminal 80's coming-of-age movies as Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Plus, he wrote and/or produced the Home Alone and Vacation series. His films minted and/or introduced huge stars, including Molly Ringwald, James Spader, Matthew Broderick, Anthony Michael Hall, John Cusack, Judd Nelson, Jon Cryer, and more. He pretty much singlehandedly unleashed the Brat Pack on an unsuspecting world. And so it is with a heavy heart that we report that Hughes died suddenly on August 6th of a heart attack in New York City. According to reports, the 59-year-old filmmaker was in the area visiting family when he was stricken. Assessing Hughes' output, it's true that he had a hand in many a clinker.

Another entertainment icon has left us far too soon.Writer, director and producer John Hughes died earlier today at the age of 59 from a sudden heart attack while taking a morning stroll during a trip to Manhattan.
Hughes had faded from the Hollywood spotlight in recent years in order to spend more time with his family. Per IMDb.com, he had assisted in writing Drillbit Taylor, Beethoven's 5th and Maid in Manhattan.
Hughes' legacy will be defined by his accomplishments in the 1980s starting with writing the script for National Lampoon's Vacation. He would go on to fill our brains with pop culture references and memorable quotes with Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles, to name a few.
If you've got a Hughes film on DVD or Blu-ray Disc at home, grab a beer and give it a spin tonight in his honor.

It looks as if 2009 will continue to deal a cruel hand to several of the entertainment industry's icons with today being no exception as CNN is reporting writer/director/producer and altogether generational icon, John Hughes died today of a heart attack while taking a morning walk in Manhattan. It seems almost pointless to list his most recognizable films as I am sure anyone interested in movies (and perhaps even those of you that aren't) already know most of them, but it never hurts to mention the likes of The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes, Trains and#038; Automobiles, Weird Science and Sixteen Candles to refresh your memory. His list of writing credits are too many to mention.
Since the early '90s, Hughes pretty much disappeared from the world of entertainment and spent more time with his wife and two sons.

The teen-movie king of the 1980s dies in New York City.
John Hughes in 1990

John Hughes did one thing extraordinarily well that most critics thought wasn't worth doing at all. He made teen comedies — funny, distinctively humane pictures that resonated with young people in the 1980s in ways that we, now living in a much raunchier age, may not see again.
Hughes, who died of a heart attack on Thursday (August 6), during a visit to Manhattan, was a madly prolific writer, director and producer with a strong aversion to the Hollywood movie-making machine. Even at his hit-churning peak, he remained stubbornly based in Chicago, and rued every moment he had to spend in Los Angeles. "L.A. is a real bad place to get a perspective on the country," he once told the New York Times. "I never saw anything but the 405 freeway going to and from work.

In case you've been away for the past couple of weeks, here's a recap of some of the top stories from around the movie blogosphere, and a bunch that we just didn't have time to post about. A lot of people have been freaking out over a so-called scam that IMAX has been perpetuating lately, meanwhile a few big casting rumours have followed the announcement of Martin Scorsese's Sinatra biopic, and Hollywood has dreamed up some of their stupidest ideas yet including an American Gladiators movie. New trailers popped up for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and the big screen adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road, plus someone is making a sequel to Easy Rider, and Tarantino might be teaming up with Sharon Stone?

Drillbit Taylor director Steve Brill has sold an untitled comedy pitch to 20th Century Fox, which he's set to direct. And just like yesterday's Rita Wilson script, it's about parents proving an embarrassment to their children. The as-yet untitled film sees a wealthy couple lose all their money in a Wall Street Ponzi scheme, wherein investors are paid back from their own money (and that of later investors) rather than from any profits from an investment scheme. The pair have to move in with their loser son, with (one hopes) hilarious consequences.Brill's also attached to rewrite and direct Last Semester, about a Harvard student couple who decide to break up and date other people for their last term at college so they can have the "college experience". Richard Amberg wrote the first draft of that one. There are no stars attached to either project yet, but given that Brill's
