The Hammer is based on Adam Carolla's own experiences as an oddjob carpenter and part-time boxing instructor who yearned for bigger and better things and decided to get back in the ring.
It is rumored that The Hammer was originally going to be released directly to DVD until the star himself, Adam Carolla (who plays Jerry Ferro), pulled out nearly half a million of his own dollars to get this movie into theaters.
