Combining two popular themes, an author struggling with writer’s block and AI run amuck, Blank is the story of Claire Rivers who can’t seem to put words on paper even as the bills pile up and the calls from her agent become more frantic. Finally, facing a one month deadline to either produce a book or lose her publishing deal she decides to spend that time at The Retreat, a high tech facility for the creatively blocked.
Her room comes complete with a holographic concierge named Henry and Rita an android assistant. There’s also a weird little device for Claire to attach to her head in order to stimulate her creativity. It doesn’t seem to help though as we mostly see her drinking wine and falling asleep in front of the TV.

That 70s Show is probably at the top of the list of iconic sitcoms of the late ’90s and early 2000s. The show ran for eight seasons and still remains one of the most beloved shows to have aired.
Following a group of teenagers in the ’70s navigating that crazy decade, That ’70s Show made its mark on TV, not only with its great and funny storylines but also with its huge lineup of guest stars. One star appeared for an episode on the show before hitting it big with The Office.

If the first red band trailer or raunchy version of the Super Bowl spot didn't convince you to see the new comedy Unfinished Business next month, 20th Century Fox is making one last attempt to get you on board. The final red band trailer has just arrived for the film starring Vince Vaughn, Tom Wilkinson and Dave Franco, and it brings some more raunchiness to the table. While I don't think this looks flat out terrible, it doesn't seem to offer up anything we haven't see before comedically with the exception of Franco's character being on the autism spectrum (though I don't buy his performance yet). Watch below! Here's the final red band trailer for Ken Scott's Unfinished Business from Fox: You can still watch the first trailers for Unfinished Business right here. Unfinished Business is directed by Ken Scott (Delivery Man, Starbuck) and written by Steve Conrad (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,...

Ellen Page is getting busy, with a couple projects in the cooker that will be worth keeping an eye out for. First up, she's joined the John Belushi biopic starring Emile Hirsch, taking the role of the late comedian's wife. Steve Conrad (the writer behind "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty" and director of "The Promotion") is behind the camera for this one that will track Belushi's rise, from "Saturday Night Live" through his brief film career, before his sudden passing of a drug overdose at the age of 33. And when Page is done that gig, she's got another movie brewing in "Queens And Country," which has just landed Craig Viveiros to direct. Based on a graphic novel, this one "centers on a British agent Tara Chace going on the run from her own people as she tries to bring down a terrorist on English soil." John Rogers ("Transformers," "Catwoman") is writing the script,...

When Juno became a breakthrough hit in late 2007, Ellen Page seemed to have all the qualities of a true Hollywood star. However, despite a few high-profile roles here and there, most recently in 2013′s The East, the actress has kept relatively quiet. Now, Page is looking to get back in the spotlight as she’s signed on to play Judy Belushi Pisano, the wife of the late John Belushi, in an upcoming untitled biopic that stars Emile Hirsch as the beloved comic actor.
The Promotion‘s Steve Conrad is on board to write and direct while Pisano will help produce as well as provide the source material for the script, which comes in the form of a biography she wrote entitled “Belushi.” The film will explore the actor’s “rise to fame in the late ’70s, from Saturday Night Live to his starring turns in Animal House and The Blues Brothers.

20th Century Fox has just announced some release date shuffling for some big projects in 2015. First up, Matthew Vaughn's Secret Service with Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson has moved from November 14th, 2014 to the spring of the following year on March 6th, 2015. Those with a good memory will recall that was the release date set for Josh Trank's reboot of Fantastic Four, but instead the film will arrive in the more appropriate blockbuster release of June 19th, 2015, the same day as Pixar's Inside Out. And that means Assassin's Creed with Michael Fassbender is moving from June 19th, 2015 to August 7th, 2015. In addition, Fox has also given Vince Vaughn's currently untitled comedy (formerly known as Business Trip) from The Promotion director Steve Conrad a release date of October 24th, 2014. The studio has also placed Paul Feig's action comedy Susan Cooper, a James Bond inspired spy plot...

Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer, Alpha Dog, Into the Wild) has been cast as John Belushi in the untitled biopic based on the 2005 biography Belushi, which was written by Belushi’s widow Judy Belushi Pisano and Tanner Colby.
Steve Conrad (The Promotion) will write and direct the film, which will cover the “heights of Belushi’s fame in The Blues Brothers as Jake Blues and Animal House as John Blutarsky along with being the biggest star on the first four seasons of Saturday Night Live. It's been three long years, but the long-gestating John Belushi biopic is no longer in the hands of director Todd Phillips, and will be moving forward without him. Not that I have a strong distaste for Phillips, but I don.t think anyone who directed Starsky & Hutch and the Hangover series should be the guy telling a story about one of the most iconic comic performers in modern history. Taking over the reins is Steve Conrad, who also wrote the untitled project.s screenplay. He.s nowhere near as accomplished a director as Phillips, but that.s not necessarily a bad thing. Conrad.s main claim to fame behind the camera was 2008.s workplace comedy The Promotion with John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott. While that.s hardly worth judging him for, he also wrote the screenplay for Ben Stiller.s upcoming comedic drama The Secret Life of Walter...

The John Belushi biopic which once was in the hands of director Todd Phillips (The Hangover) has now been passed to screenwriter Steve Conrad. Conrad wrote the script for the upcoming The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty starring Ben Stiller. In addition to also penning The Weather Man, Conrad wrote and directed 2008s The Promotion. The latter is severely underrated in my opinion. Great performances from John C. Reilly and Seann William Scott. The biopic which remains untitled already has a...

Over three years ago, it was revealed that Old School and The Hangover director Todd Phillips was going to produce and direct a biopic about late comedian John Belushi with a script from Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), but we haven't heard anything since then. Now the project has life again, but Conrad will step up to make this his sophomore directing effort following The Promotion in 2008. In addition, Conrad is already looking for an actor to bring the large than life comedian to life, having met Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer, Into the Wild) and "Workaholics" star Adam Devine. THR also reports Joaquin Phoenix might also be in the mix, but there isn't a frontrunner out of the group just yet. Canadian writer-director Ken Scott is set to make his American movie debut this fall with the Vince Vaughn vehicle Delivery Man. And already this pair is primed to reteam. Deadline reports Scott has entered into talks with New Regency to helm the Vaughn-fronted Business Trip. Though the comedy's logline is currently being kept secret (we assume it will involve travel and business of some kind), we do know the script has been written by Steve Conrad, who has penned screenplays like The Weather Man, The Pursuit of Happyness, and The Promotion. Business Trip is expected to go into production this fall. So, we expect this deal will be sealed in short order. Soon thereafter, further casting announcements should follow. Scott first drew notice with his acclaimed French-Canadian comedy Starbuck, which is the source material for DreamWork's Delivery Man. After delivering the second highest ratings of the season last weekend for "Saturday Night Live," funnyman Vince Vaughn, who will be seen later this summer with his Wedding Crashers cohort Owen Wilson in The Internship, is taking a little trip for New Regency. The Wrap has word that Vaughn is in talks to lead the comedy Business Trip, a script from The Pursuit of Happyness and The Promotion writer Steve Conrad which follows an American businessman on a trip to Europe where everything can and does go wrong. The pitch was picked up last year and was described as being in the same vein as Planes, Trains & Automobiles. As long as we're not looking at another pseudo remake of the classic Steve Martin and John Candy comedy (we're looking at you Due Date), then this could be funny. The fast-talking Vaughn could bring some good laughs in foreign locales, and...

Vince Vaughn is in negotiations to take a Business Trip for New Regency. The comedy's scripted by The Pursuit of Happyness, The Weather Man and and The Promotion writer Steve Conrad. Sources say there's no director on board the film as yet for the film produced by Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Todd Black, and New Regency. There's little on the plot except that the story follows a man who flies to Europe on a "business trip" and all chaos breaks loose, somewhere along the line. Vaughn's just the actor to pull off a role like that.

The Promotion was initially released in Us theatres in 2008 and it is a little unclear why it has sat on UK shelves for so long. The American Pie boys on growing up and making the third sequel to their smash-hit gross-out comedy
"I don't know that we'll necessarily top the first movie," says Thomas Ian Nicholas, a star of the American Pie teen-film series, which started in 1999 and will next month expand to a fourth instalment, American Pie: Reunion. "But I feel this is the best sequel."
It must be tricky territory for the franchise's five leads; bittersweet. On the one hand, the thirtysomethings clearly delight in one another's company, tirelessly joking and jostling in a London hotel. On the other hand, none would have thought, back when American Pie kickstarted five careers, they'd be 13 years in the same roles: sensitive Jim (Jason Biggs), insensitive Stifler (Seann William Scott), brawny Oz (Chris Klein), brainy Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and Nicholas's straight man, Kevin. These names, Thomas says, "will forever be stamped on our foreheads."

Chicago – Seann William Scott gives a surprisingly engaging, even sweet performance as the title character in the brutal, raunchy hockey comedy “Goon,” written by “Superbad” scribe Evan Goldberg and comedy actor Jay Baruchel. This “Slap Shot meets Fight Club” is a definite must-see for hockey fans but feels a little too slight for everyone else. Still, there’s a lot to like here, especially for those who want an interesting alternative On Demand (it’s already available there and opening in Chicago theaters today, March 30th, 2012).
I’ve never been quite sure what to think of Scott as an actor. Can you give us a flavour of how you went about capturing the sheer intensity of the matches themselves?...

It's been over thirty years since "Slap Shot" proved that the world of minor league hockey was an ideal setting for gut-level, blue-collar comedy. "Slap Shot"'s one of the best sports movies of all time, and simultaneously one of the funniest and saddest. That's a tough act to follow, but again, it's been thirty years since Paul Newman laced up his skates for the Charlestown Chiefs; more than enough time passed to dive back into the place on film (There are rumors on the Internet that there was a "Slap Shot" sequel in 2002 but I don't buy it. It's probably fake like those pictures of that half-human/half-dog creature).
Maybe that's what Jay Baruchel ("Undeclared," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice") had in mind when he and Evan Goldberg ("Superbad," "Pineapple Express") teamed up to write the comedy "Goon," about a listless bouncer (Seann William Scott) who finds his calling as an...

Ben Stiller is hopping back in the director's seat for a fresh take on the Danny Kaye comedy, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."
Last we heard, Ben Stiller was just planning to star as Mitty, but now he's going to do double-duty as he has in years past with "Tropic Thunder," "Zoolander," "The Cable Guy," and "Reality Bites."
Starring song-and-dance man Danny Kaye, a classic Borscht Belt comedian with singing and dancing skills to boot, the '47 "Mitty" took on a lighter vibe than the original story by James Thurber.
Thurber was reportedly rather displeased by this take on his story, but perhaps he'd be happier to see what Stiller comes up with.
Twitch broke the story last night, and as the site's Todd Brown points out, Stiller's directorial work has a bite to it that his "Fock"-ing flicks just don't.
Stiller also successfully channeled a way more neurotic,...

Despite being one of the funniest shows on television (okay, the last couple of seasons have been wildly uneven) outside of Steve Carell and Ed Helms, the other members of "The Office" cast haven't quite been able to make the big screen leap. John Krasinski, seemingly the most obvious candidate for an easy transition into the movies, has appeared in a series of middling efforts including "Leatherheads," "It's Complicated," "Away We Go" and this spring's "Something Borrowed." As for his onscreen better half Jenna Fischer, she too has wallowed in thankless roles in "Walk Hard," "The Promotion" and "Hall Pass"…...

Since making her name on The Office, Jenna Fischer has played female leads in a lot of movies where the men get way more to do—Blades Of Glory, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, The Promotion, Hall Pass—so it’s refreshing to see nobody from the Frat Pack is taking top billing in her new film, A Little Help. Fischer plays a frustrated mom whose philandering husband (Chris O’Donnell) falls over dead, leaving her to provide for their pissed off son. The film, which debuted at the Seattle Film Festival almost exactly a year ago, doesn’t have a release date yet, but the new trailer above should definitely bring the film a little buzz. Hopefully they’ll start promoting this thing heavily soon—you gotta take advantage of Jenna’s baby bump!

Last year, Nanette Burstein used comedic flair to tackle the difficulties of trying to love and make love with someone across the country. Two years before that, she (re-)burst onto the scene as the writer/director of the documentary American Teen, a simple movie focusing on the difficulties of the acne age that demands to be seen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Burstein will now be showcasing the difficulties of battling with your soul mate in the work place. She’s signed on to direct Unforgiving World, a remake of a French film that focuses on a married couple who are both up for the same career-altering job at an architecture firm. Instead of giving one side of the story, the film will show different possible outcomes depending on who gets the gig (and presumably how they get it). Please Give writer/director Nicole Holofcener will write the script for Focus Features, but...

We’ve got a sneak peek at some of the newest Universal DVD releases for you now, starting with Season Six of The Office! What’s going on at Dunder Mifflin this season?
The Show
It took awhile for me to figure out why the UK Office was funny (excepting a stapler-in-Jello gag), and likewise, it took me awhile to warm up to the Us version. However, I finally watched it regularly when one of my favorite actors, Idris Elba, appeared for a few episodes in Season Five, and I started to get it. The show’s deadpan, sometimes offbeat humor isn’t for everyone and certainly isn’t obvious, but when it’s good, it’s great.
To me, The Office is kind of like Monty Python’s Flying Circus: you either get it or you don’t. It’s either the most hilarious thing you’ve ever seen,...

Unfortunately some of our greatest talents left us far too early, including comedic greats like Chris Farley, John Ritter, Andy Kaufman and John Belushi. Whether he was making us laugh on the small screen on Saturday Night Live or on the big screen in Animal House, John Belushi was an original in every conceivable way. The guy blew up when he hit the scene, joining folks like Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy and Chevy Chase as the first to crossover from SNL to feature films. Sadly, though, only two years after starring alongside Dan Aykroyd in The Blues Brothers, Belushi died of a drug overdose. Now, almost 30 years after his death, Todd Phillips (director of The Hangover and Due Date) and Steve Conrad (writer of The Pursuit of Happyness and The Promotion) are teaming on a John Belushi...

If you want to talk about comedians or actors who died well before their time, John Belushi is definitely one name that immediately comes to mind. The man left us with iconic performances in Animal House and The Blues Brothers (not to mention four years of Saturday Night Live) but could have done so much more if he hadn't died of a drug overdose in 1981. Since then the story of his wild ride to fame has been chronicled in the book Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi, which was also turned into a movie starring Michael Chiklis as Belushi. The movie wasn't very well-received, but now it looks like there is another Belushi biopic on the way courtesy of Steven Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Promotion) and Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Old School). According to The Hollywood Reporter [1], the new movie will be based...

- If the above image of Russell Brand as Trinculo in Julie Taymor's The Tempest doesn't have you kids craving some Shakespeare, how about the film's poster, which almost seems to need Nic Cage's face and/or Jerry Bruckheimer's name on it somewhere. Related: check out Brand and Tempest co-star Helen Mirren on the soapy set of the Arthur remake.
- I don't mind that Todd Phillips and Steve Conrad, who wrote and directed the very underrated comedy The Promotion, are reportedly developing a new biopic about John Belushi. I never saw Wired anyway. But I will be upset if they take any of The Hollywood Reporter's suggestions for stars, which include Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and Ethan Suplee (not to mention too-old actors Zach Galifianakis and Jack Black).

John Belushi may be getting a (second) second life on the big screen.
"The Pursuit of Happyness" screenwriter Steven Conrad and "The Hangover" director-producer Todd Phillips are developing a biographical film about the late comedian's life. Warner Bros. recently acquired the rights from Belushi's estate.
Conrad will script the project and Phillips will produce, though he has not yet committed to directing it. Alexandra Milchan and Bonnie Timmerman are also producing.
In a typically difficult process that saw the rights deal come together, then fall apart, then come back together again, the project would be the latest attempt at a full-scale biopic about the "Saturday Night Live" cast member and film star who died of a drug overdose in 1982 at age 33.
Belushi's life was famously detailed in Bob Woodward's 1985 biography, "Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi." That book is not part of the rights deal,...

Earlier this week, Seann William Scott and Steve Conrad announced the launch of their new production shingle, Elephant Pictures, based in Conrad’s home city, Chicago. The actor and screenwriter, who met while working together on The Promotion, will pair up as a producing team, though rumors have it that Scott has also penned a new feature length project, Iceholes. Officially founded in November of 2009 (although the company has been incorporated in California since February of last year), Elephant will produce shorts, features, and web television series. In a statement to THR, Scott shared his motivation for teaming up with Conrad “We want to be able to do things that are a little subversive and something that a studio would be less willing to do.” Related News:‘Twilight With Steve Cooper’ Leaves Us Confused Out Loud Zacuto’s Web Series a Model for Small Business Marketing CollegeHumor Gets Its Own...

Actor Seann William Scott and screenwriter Steve Conrad have formed Elephant Pictures, which aims to bring together directors, writers and actors for shorts, features, documentaries and episodic Web content.
Scott starred in Conrad's 2008 comedy "The Promotion," and the two bonded over a shared bizarre sense of humor and the idea of having more say over projects with which they are creatively involved.
"We want to be able to do things that are a little subversive and something that a studio would be less willing to do," Scott said. "We want to do full-length features -- something we can control and with the people we love. Right now, it's an economic climate where it's better to control your own projects."
They also plan to develop a website that would deliver fresh content, but the pair are seeking to expand beyond the proven comedy model and include ways to introduce new writers and directors.

Despite what certain uninformed and thoroughly useless contributors on other websites might think, South by Southwest is probably one of the most enjoyable festivals to attend. While Toronto, Cannes, and Sundance get the prestige, SXSW is by far the more entertaining. Ten days of films and music spread across an amazing landscape of killer theatres and awesome bars. The Alamo Drafthouse is probably one of the raddest venues imaginable: a glorious combination of bar and grindhouse. SXSW is laidback, giving as much credence to local filmmaking as the major studio releases. Austin's got a proud film heritage: Richard Linklater, Robert Rodriguez, Tim McCandles. And lest we forget, this year's best picture winner -- and no I will never get tired of saying that -- premiered at last year's festival. And I fucking missed it.
After perusing this year's lineup, there's been some genuine glee across the interwebs. My original flick wishlist was almost 65 movies deep.

Seann William Scott is playing the lead in Kevin Smith’s next film Hit Somebody, an adaptation of the Warren Zevon song.
Smith revealed the news to NHL.com this week just before the United States mounted an upset victory over Canada in the Winter Olympics. His next film is a hockey movie about Buddy (Scott), an enforcer and goon who dreams of one day scoring a goal.
Scott and Smith worked together briefly on Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and recently on the comedy Cop Out, which celebrated its premiere last night in New York City and hits theaters this weekend. Reviews for the odd team-up of Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan have been mixed, some calling it a blatant homage to cliche cop flicks with only scattered funny bits.

Roiled up on residual airline diss rage and weed, Kevin Smith spilled the beans to NHL.com about his lead for the upcoming Hit Somebody. It's to be none other than Seann William Scott, which will make this their third collaboration.
I can see Sws as a hockey player. I'm totally behind this decision. Despite his declaration to play Stifler as long as they'll have him, I think that's just more of his strangely upbeat Christian moxie than any sort of desperation ploy. Kid's got some decent chops -- within a range. In the mxyzptlk of Southland Tales, he held his own. And he impressed the bejeezus out of me in The Promotion. It's not like he's doing Shakespeare, he's just playing a hockey guy.
But I think Smith is going a little fucking overboard in his proclamations that Sws will be Tom Hanks Big. Maybe Tom Hanks Volunteers? Or Versus a Volcano?...

Though his career never exactly exploded following the American Pie films, Seann William Scott still managed to carve out a little corner for himself and, as such, continues to find steady work in some pretty funny films (The Promotion and Role Models, to name two recent comedies well worth your time). Now, not only has Kevin Smith seen enough to re-team with Scott on his next film, but there's also talk of Stifler returning to the big screen in that American Pie sequel we told you about last week.

Exclusive: I've often called Jason Bateman the hardest working actor in showbiz because he's appeared in so many films recently. So it's surprising to learn that he's left UTA board member Tracey Jacobs who's repped him for nearly 25 years. John C. Reilly is one of my most favorite actors working today. It's to the point that I'll watch a mediocre film just to see his performance in it. Case in point: Step Brothers. Not that it was a completely terrible movie, but I didn't love it. However, Reilly does some subtle things in it that just kill me. His added "Boats and Hoes" lyric during Will Ferrell's heartfelt song in the climax was one of the funniest moments in the movie. Then there's his brilliant understated role in The Promotion, a film that needs more attention.
But I digress. I met with Reilly after a screening of Fantastic Fest's premiere of Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, in which he plays Larten Crepsley, a 200+ year old vampire. He's seen a lot during his lifetime, and he has a jaded outlook on it all. Find out what drew Reilly...

Like it or not, the Karate Kid reboot continues to fight its way forward. First came Jaden Smith, then Jackie Chan, and then a spanky new name in The Kung Fu Kid. Now The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog reports that the the film is getting some Happyness in the form of screenwriter Steven Conrad. Yes, the same man who wrote little Jaden and Papa Will's Pursuit of Happyness.
