The Last Airbender
Opens: July 2nd 2010
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel
Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.
Analysis: Its been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan who started it as a household name with labels of a moodern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".
Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit cartoon series

Hippie Hippie Shake
Opens: 2010
Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby
Director: Beeban Kidron
Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.
Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.
Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence

Dinner for Schmucks
Opens: July 23rd 2010
Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, David Walliams
Director: Jay Roach
Summary: A renowned publisher encourages his friends to invite the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party. Just as they find the most pathetic man yet, the host is injured and ends up trapped with the man all night long.
Analysis: A remake of director Francis Veber's 1998 César award-winning "Le Diner des cons", 'Schmucks' is one of the highest profile comedies of next year with one of the strongest casts for the genre in recent memory. It also marks the return of "Austin Powers" and "Meet the Parents" helmer Jay Roach who has produced several films in recent years but hasn't directed since 2004's "Meet the Fockers".
The question now lies not in the performers or director but the material itself and whether a Gallic comedy can

trailer break: ‘Death at a Funeral’

Oh. My. God. Why would anyone take Frank Oz’s hilarious 2007 flick of the same name, and turn it into this?
Why would Neil Labute do that?
Is this all Chris Rock is capable of: taking someone else script and adding some minstrelry to it?
I was all like, Damn! by the time I was halfway through this trailer, and then I saw Peter Dinklage, playing the same role he played in the original film. Are there really so few jobs for this awesomely talented actor that he has to stoop to this?
That’s a bigger crime than the remake itself.
Death at a Funeral opens in the U.S. on April 16, 2010, and the U.K. on June 4, 2010.

Vincent D’Onofrio to Play Harvey Weinstein in Down And Dirty Pictures

Screen Daily reports that Vincent D’Onofrio has been perfectly cast to play Harvey Weinstein in the upcoming adaptation of Peter Biskind’s Down and Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance, and the Rise of Independent Film. As you can guess by the title, Biskind’s book chronicles the rise in popularity of independent films in the 90’s and how Miramax (which Harvey and his brother Bob Weinstein ran) played a huge role in everything. Kenneth Bowser, who previously directed the documentary adaptation of Peter Biskind’s Easy Riders, Raging Bulls: How the Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘N’ Roll Generation Saved Hollywood, will be directing the film based off of a script by Dean Craig (Death at a Funeral) and Joshua James (Alien Uprising). The always “trusty” IMDb also lists some interesting names like Matthew Perry, Andy Serkis, and Sally Hawkins as part of the cast.

Case 39
Opens: January 1st 2010
Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper, Kerry O'Malley
Director: Christian Alvart
Summary: A family services social worker thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case - a troubled 10-year old girl whose parents try to kill her. The social worker decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.
Analysis: Despite the presence of promising German director Christian Alvart ("Pandorum"), 'Case' has sat on a shelf since late 2006 and is finally being quietly shuffled out this year for one very good reason - it stinks. Having opened in Australia a few months back, reviewers utterly savaged the film as both incredibly dumb and utterly ludicrous. Lead star Renee Zellweger also scored personal criticism to a level rarely seen in film reviews outside of comments about Nicole Kidman's 'more alien than the

The Sorcerer's Apprentice
Nicolas Cage plays a wizard who sets out to train a young man in the mystical arts. Looks to be quite the special effects extravaganza and I have to say the score is really sticking with me. The magic begins July 16.
Death at a Funeral
Chris Rock leads a mostly African-American cast in this remake of the 2007 British comedy. The original had some good ideas but the humor was too dry for my taste, and this trailer has me wondering if they may have surpassed the original. Also of note is that Peter Dinklage reprises his role from the 2007 version as the man who has a dirty little secret involving the deceased. The mourning starts on April 16.

Whoa. What the hell? I just had to hit the delete key and rewrite this entire article after I realized that this movie, Death At A Funeral, is an African-American-ized remake of a 2007 film by Frank Oz, one that even shares a primary cast member in the form of Peter Dinklage, playing the same role in both films. The original movie was a black comedy, in terms of humor, but now literally, it’s been turned into a black comedy in terms of cast as well.

Much like the original, this new version follows a family stumbling across all sorts of weird secrets during a funeral ceremony that quickly turns into a disaster. Neil Labute directed a script by Dean Craig.
The cast includes some big names: Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Danny Glover, Regina Hall, Columbus Short, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Luke Wilson, James Marsden, Peter Dinklage and Loretta Devine.

Chris Rock Has His Own Death at a Funeral

The U.K. dark comedy Death at a Funeral is just two years old but already it has a remake -- actually two, if you want to count the Bollywood version Daddy Cool.
The new Death at a Funeral, starring Chris Rock, keeps the title and general gist of the film -- a patriarch dies prompting secrets and shenanigans to break out during his funeral -- but trades the wry, and sometimes absurdist, British humor for more slapstick and broad comedy. That's not to say that the new version is bad, just that it's different.
Also different? The all-white cast has been switched out for a mostly-black cast composed of notable names like Tracy Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Martin Lawrence, Columbus Short, and Danny Glover. Luke Wilson and James Marsden also make appearances with Marsden notably taking over the part played by Joss-Whedon-favorite Alan Tudyk in the original film.

A review/break down of the script for the Red Dawn remake.
The final runtime of "Avatar" clocks in at 161 minutes. While a secret Hollywood Foreign Press Association screening took place the other day, the UK premiere and several international press screenings in a few days time mean that critical reviews will hit the Net in force on Friday and over the weekend.
"Peter Jackson says the talk of "The Hobbit" delays are just that - talk. Both scripts are to be delivered just after Christmas, and then "we’ll be shooting as soon as we possibly can, but you need a certain amount of time to finish the pre-production". I haven't seen Frank Oz's original Death at a Funeral, but I have been led to believe that it's not quite as goofy and slapsticky as this new version of the film starring Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Tracy Morgan. Or is it? If I didn't know anything about this movie, I would be tempted to think it was a new Farrelly Brothers flick and would probably turn up my nose just based on the trailer alone. Still, I have to admit, there are a few things that intrigue me about this remake.
For one, Tracy Morgan can make me laugh in pretty much any situation. Another potential win is the fact that the movie is directed by Neil Labute (Lakeview Terrace, In The Company of Men), who seems like an edgy choice to direct an otherwise harmless comedy. (On the other hand, he also did Nurse Betty and The Wicker Man,

The trailer for the Chris Rock-starring Death at a Funeral has hit the web.
The original, directed by Frank Oz, followed a farcical string of problems occuring during a funeral and was a modest success despite so-so reviews.
Although it was only released three years ago, Death is getting the remake treatment, and this new trailer is not without a few laughs - though they appear to be the exact same laughs as in the original, with a few added 'urbanisms', you know, because it's in America now, y'all...
The new version is...
