(Spoler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Starting Over,” the May 16 season finale of “9-1-1.”)
“9-1-1” gave its characters a well-deserved break with its Season 5 finale Monday. Almost everyone got a happy ending of sorts, with the exception of Buck (Oliver Stark) and Taylor’s (Megan West) complicated relationship, which came to an end — but that means happier things should come for both of them.
The episode, titled “Staring Over,” saw almost everyone doing just that in one way or another, with Bobby (Peter Krause) escaping his almost-relapse thanks to Eddie (Ryan Guzman), Bobby and Athena (Angela Bassett) deciding to take that honeymoon they’ve been waiting many seasons for, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) keeping the door open for each other, and Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) getting treated to a beautiful backyard vow renewal by Hen’s mother Toni...

Both the 118 and the 126 will have to save some of their own firefighters in the 9-1-1 and Lone Star season finales, airing back-to-back on Monday, May 16. (Neither has been renewed yet.) First, in the 9-1-1 Season 5 finale, “Starting Over,” it looks like the 118 starts off by being worried about their captain Bobby Nash’s (Peter Krause) emotional well-being. “This last year, everything that happened, it feels like maybe he spent so much time worrying about us, maybe we didn’t spend enough time worrying about him,” Buck (Oliver Stark) says in the promo. And if anything shows exactly why they should, it might be Bobby telling the others he’s going to do a rescue… and then the cliff starts coming down. Watch the promo below to see who’s in danger and how. This comes after Bobby punched Jonah (Brad Durfee), the paramedic who’d temporarily filled...

The 2022 Grammys just happened on April 3, honoring the best in music from September 2020 through September 2021. This year was particularly special, being the first in decades without general field and genre panels to sort out the nominations. With both nominations and winners entirely in the hands of regular voters in the Recording Academy, what did we learn from this year’s show?

If you follow the Grammys at all, you are probably well aware that the show can be full of surprises. Take for example Dua Lipa’s “Future Nostalgia” pulling an upset against Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” for Best Pop Album this past year — despite “Folklore” going on to win Album of the Year. Or a few years back when we got that very unexpected win from Esperanza Spalding against Justin Bieber and Drake for Best New Artist. This year, with a brand new set of nominations, and a lot more competition than ever, it’s to be expected that a couple of unexpected picks will prevail. Here are three artists you might be underestimating, and why you perhaps shouldn’t.

The 2021 American Music Awards are coming on November 21, so let’s look at the possible winners for country. The genre has had a big year, notching multiple top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and seeing the continuous rise of newer artists like Gabby Barrett and Walker Hayes, as well as the continued success of perennials Lady A, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood. However, the biggest news in country has been the rise, fall, and then rise again of the controversial Morgan Wallen, whose album “Dangerous: The Double Album” is the most successful of the year commercially. Will this translate into Ama success?

The 55th Annual Country Music Association Awards held on November 10 ended with another surprise for Entertainer of the Year: Luke Combs won for the first time on just his second try, which comes after Eric Church pulled off an upset in that category in 2020. It was a counterintuitive result considering that Chris Stapleton had just swept all four of his other categories, including Male Vocalist of the Year, where he beat Combs. And it meant Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert have to wait at least one more year for the title. Check out the complete list of winners here.

Chris Stapleton nearly swept the CMA Awards with six trophies in four categories Wednesday night, but the Country Music Association reserved its top prize for Luke Combs, who won entertainer of the year for the first time.

For the first time in Grammy history, the race to accrue nominations and ultimately the final contest itself may come down to a battle of the teenaged girls. Olivia Rodrigo, a newcomer at 18, and Billie Eilish, veritably a veteran now at 19, are the leading contenders to pick up multiple nods when the nominees for the 2022 Grammy Awards are announced Nov. 23. Yes, Eilish, whose birthday is Dec. 18, will officially have graduated out of her teens by the time the ceremony takes place Jan. 23, but it’ll still be a prodigy-vs.-prodigy contest in which we can be assured that not many elder voters will be holding their preternaturally talented superstars’ youth against them.

This has been an exciting year for country music. From the returns of acclaimed singer-songwriters like Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves to some massive chart successes for acts like Gabby Barrett, Walker Hayes, Luke Combs, and Morgan Wallen, it’s safe to say the genre is having a resurgence. With that in mind, the competition for even a nomination at the Grammys is tightening up, so let’s take a look at the likeliest contenders.
The biggest country players this year will likely be Musgraves and Stapleton. Both artists have previously swept the country field for their respective albums “Golden Hour” and “Traveller,” and both might go head-to-head this year with their current releases “Star-Crossed” and “Starting Over” — Musgraves could be slotted in pop, though, since “Star-Crossed” is more pop-leaning than her previous work. In Stapleton’s case, he’s likely to get performance and/or songwriting noms for one...

The 2021 Country Music Association Awards are about a month away, airing on Wednesday night, November 10 live on ABC. So let’s take a look at who will win the six CMA artist categories, including the biggest award of the night …
SEEWomen underrepresented in the CMA Awards nominations … again Entertainer of the Year
It’s been 10 years since Taylor Swift won this award for the last time in 2011, making her the last woman to win to date. A decade before that, Shania Twain and The Chicks won this award back to back in 1999 and 2000, which made them the first women to win since Reba McEntire had done so in 1986. So perhaps enough time has passed for the CMAs to be gracious enough to award a woman this time around; after all, it’s pretty wild that neither Miranda Lambert nor Carrie Underwood has ever won this category.

SEE2021 CMA Awards nominations list: 55th Annual Country Music Association nominees led by Chris Stapleton, Eric Church Album of the Year
This award will likely go to Chris Stapleton’s “Starting Over.” He is a previous category winner, winning for both “Traveller” (2015) and “From A Room, Volume 1” (2017). “Starting Over” was also met with great reviews and notched two country hits, including the title track, which reached the top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. Stapleton’s only competition here will be Morgan Wallen’s “Dangerous: The Double Album,” which could’ve won if it weren’t for the whole controversy surrounding Wallen. 2022 Grammys could be more diverse than ever, with contenders ranging from hip-hop to K-Pop to Latin
It’s no secret that award shows often struggle with diversity. Moments like #OscarsSoWhite and #GrammysSoMale have been responses to the constant disrespect some award shows have shown to marginalized groups, particularly women and people of color. In particular, the Grammys have had a rocky relationship with representation, struggling less with who they nominate and more with who wins. A lot of people have also felt like the Grammys relegate artists of color — especially Black artists — to “Black” categories like R&b and rap, while going for pop, rock, and country more often in top categories. But this year, with a landmark number of diverse artists from every part of the world eligible for consideration, how could 2022 Grammys diversity turn out?

The CMT Awards differ from other country music events in that they’re decided strictly by fans voting online, unlike the CMA and ACM Awards, which are handed out by industry peers. And we’re betting that fans will be kinder to Carrie Underwood than those other awards often are. She rarely wins Entertainer of the Year at those events (and often isn’t even nominated), but she has won the top prize here more than anyone else, claiming Video of the Year eight times.

In case you missed the 2021 ACM Awards, Chris Stapleton received one of the biggest honors of the night, with his album “Starting Over” winning Album of the Year. With the ACMs and CMAs being good precursors to see what will eventually get into the Grammys, let’s review Stapleton’s important win and see how it might affect the album going forward this awards season.
“Starting Over’s” win wasn’t unexpected. It led Gold Derby’s odds by a comfortable margin, and it was also the bestselling album nominated in the category, peaking at number-three on the Hot 100 with over 100,000 units in its first week. The album was also acclaimed, scoring 81 on MetaCritic, the highest among the nominees besides Ashley McBryde’s “Never Will” (which scored 83). With a great combination of sales and acclaim, it’s not a surprise the album was the front-runner and ended up winning.
