Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis have grown close over the years thanks to the show. So when Davis had to work with Parker’s husband Matthew Broderick in a movie, things became uncomfortable when the two had to get too close.
Kristin Davis once looked back at her awkward bed scene with Matthew Broderick Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis | Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage
Broderick and Davis had already known each other for years behind the scenes. But they collaborated for the first time in the 2006 Christmas film Deck the Halls. The feature was a comedy about two neighbors fighting over Holiday decorations, with Davis playing Broderick’s wife.
Working with Davis wasn’t a big deal for the Ferris Bueller star, especially since the movie wasn’t heavy in romance. Parker also helped put in a good word for her Sex and the City co-star.

If you didn’t already know that Billy Joel has two daughters under the age of 10, now you do, as does everyone who attended his Madison Square Garden residency Tuesday night (December 19th). For his final show before Christmas, the singer welcomed his youngest kids Della and Remy — plus family friend Elvis Costello — on stage as special guests.
Dressed like very chic North Pole elves, eight-year-old Della and six-year-old Remy sang “Jingle Bells” for the Msg audience as their father performed piano accompaniment. It was a big evening for Christmas tunes (according to Setlist.fm), as the Piano Man also tore through covers of “Deck the Halls,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and “Silent Night.”
Costello emerged in the latter half of the set, performing his own “Pump It Up” with Joel as well as a duet version of Joel’s “Allentown.” Afterwards, Joel shared a sweet Instagram post thanking “some...

It seems streaming services have realised in the last few years that a good Christmas film is worth putting some money behind. “Christmas is not about money,” says Pepper (Jillian Bell), the passive-aggressive Christmas store elf in “Candy Cane Lane.” “Except that it is.” She could almost be describing Christmas movies. From the start, they’ve paired a celebration of the Christmas spirit, in all its enveloping toastiness, with a theme of raw economic desperation. You can trace this right back to the original Christmas movie — “A Christmas Carol,” and by that I don’t even mean the assorted film versions (though I grew up with them and especially loved the 1951 version with Alastair Sim) but the Charles Dickens novella, published in 1843, which essentially invented the modern Christmas.
It was a tale built around money, and the fear of poverty as embodied in Bob Cratchit. A century later, “It’s a Wonderful Life” was essentially a remake of “A Christmas Carol,” albeit it with a small-town American mensch at the center and Scrooge...

The star, along with Tracee Ellis Ross playing his wife, does his best but Amazon’s increasingly convoluted family film wears thin
We’re in the process of getting snowed in by flimsy festive fodder, most of which is indistinguishable – cheaply made, poorly written, floating on the assumed Christmas spirit of those watching – but there are moments when it’s easy to get naively hopeful. Seeing the involvement of Eddie Murphy in Amazon’s Candy Cane Lane is one such moment, the actor not only a key reason why Trading Places remains a December staple but a star who brightens whatever film he’s in, regardless of the season. It might have been a while since he’s been at his shiniest (2019’s Dolemite Is My Name being a fine example of what he can and will do) but at a time when star power as a whole is depressingly diminished,...

It’s that time of the year again. Mariah Carey has been defrosted. “Black Friday” sales seem to last for weeks. Last-minute treks to the gym fail to absolve your guilt over that third slice of pecan pie. Unfortunately, we’ll also have to endure a litany of ill-conceived and poorly executed Christmas songs that are inexplicably resurrected every year, and will likely be until time immemorial. Here are 15 of the absolute worst offenders. Apologies in advance.

Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. Hulu will be adding a lot of library TV shows and movies in November, but there are only a few new major original projects hitting the streamer this month.
Hulu’s spotlight streaming series in November is Black Cake, which is based on the bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson. Part family drama, part murder mystery, the show features a globetrotting story that will cover decades of events after a bereaved family find a flash drive that contains some shocking secrets about the hidden history of their late matriarch.

Prime Video has a fair amount in store for subscribers in November, as the uber-violent hit animated show Invincible returns for its highly anticipated second season. Based on the iconic comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, season two will find super-powered protagonist Mark attempting to rebuild his life after finding out the truth about his father Nolan.
Elsewhere on the streamer, the producing team behind the James Bond movies are out to spin the franchise in a completely different direction by debuting their curious new globe-trotting adventure series, pitched somewhere between a quiz show and a treasure hunt. 007: Road To A Million features Brian Cox as the game’s “mastermind”, watching over the contestants as they try to win a million quid.

Carol Higgins Clark, an actress in several television movies and best-selling author of the Regan Reilly series, died on June 12. She was 66.
Her family told The New York Times that she died in Los Angeles following a battle with appendix cancer.
Clark, the daughter of best-selling suspense author Mary Higgins Clark, who died in 2020 at the age of 92, was born on July 28, 1956, in New York City. After graduating from Mount Holyoke College in 1978, she went on to study acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.
It was later that she found her way to becoming an author. Some of her most successful novels were centered around private investigator Regan Reilly, including Decked, which was nominated for the Agatha Award in 1992 and the Anthony Award for best first novel. Several of the books in the series were also made into TV movies, which she appeared in.

Dynamic mother-daughter and best friend duo Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) return in “Ginny & Georgia” Season 2, which gets even more chaotic than the already very complex first season of the Netflix show. Another of Georgia’s past loves enters the mix, she commits some more questionable actions and many other twists and turns develop within the 10 hour-long episodes.
Ginny and her friends are no strangers to the TikTok scene, so some song choices reflect Gen Z’s poppy preferences. With Christmas Day again on its way, Awfully Good Movies is leaving a plate of rum ham out for Santa and watching Danny DeVito face off against his new neighbor Matthew Broderick in the 2006 “family” “comedy” Deck the Halls!
While It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has made Mr. DeVito a late career icon with the younger generations the past 17 years, the same can’t be said for the movie that came out the same year as Frank Reynolds’ first season on the show. Here, he plays yet another sleazy salesman type who moves into a Massachusetts suburb around December time with his inexplicably hot/young wife Kristin Chenoweth and their daughters, and attempts to do something more profound with his life by dressing his home up in enough Christmas lights to get his home seen from space by a Google Earth knockoff website.

The summer movie season may be winding down, but HBO Max is keeping the movie ball rolling in September 2021. HBO Max’s list of new releases this month is heavy on the film side of things – both in library and original offerings.
Two Warner Bros. films of note arrive this month. The James Wan-directed horror tale Malignant premieres on Sept. 10 and is followed by Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho on Sept. 17. The next installment in Adventure Time: Distant Lands (which is kind of like a film series!) is titled Wizard City and opens the month on Sept. 2
Of course, it wouldn’t be a new month of HBO Max releases without some interesting evergreen Warner movie titles. Sept. 1 finds all eight Harry Potter movies returning to WarnerMedia’s streaming service. They will be accompanied by The Goonies, The Evil Dead, Cloverfield, and more. Later on in the month, Mortal Kombat (Sept.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Ted Lasso” Season 2, Episode 4, “Carol of the Bells.”]
What will inevitably come to be known as the “Ted Lasso” Christmas Special is officially titled “Carol of the Bells” — a tip of the hat to a classic holiday song in what’s sure to be a classic holiday episode. Could it have been any other way? The Apple TV+ series has become a phenomenon of goodwill and positivity, embodying the trademarks of the season without, until now, so much as a snowman. But Episode 4 leans hard into the Christmas spirit: There’s a Secret Santa gift exchange, a playlist that spans “Jingle Bells” to “Christmas in Hollis,” bags of presents, a Santa hat permanently affixed to Ted’s head, a “Love, Actually” homage, and even a new title sequence complete with green seats turning red and claymation cast members gathering for a holiday card photo.

There are few surefire successes in television. It just so happens that with its new releases for May 2020, Hulu almost certainly found itself one. May 8 sees the debut of all eight episodes of Solar Opposites, the latest sci-fi animated effort from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. This is a brand new story featuring a family of aliens crashing to Earth and learning to live amongst the rest of us weirdos. But the animation style and sci-fi themes hew so closely to Rick and Morty that there’s no way this won’t be a hit.
On the off chance Solar Opposites doesn’t set the world ablaze, Hulu has some other intriguing content lottery tickets for May. The Great premieres on May 15 and is a comedic period piece about Catherine the Great starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. You can’t accuse Hulu of not taking big swings this month!

Here's everything coming to Amazon Prime instant video in March 2020!
For its new releases in March 2020, Amazon Prime is enlisting help from some horror friends.
Yes, horror is the name of the game this month with Night of the Living Dead (albeit the 2007 version), The Crazies, and The Descent all arriving on March 1. And if that weren't enough, Pet Sematary comes a little later on on May 19. Look at Church the cat in that thumbnail image. How could you not want to watch his spooky adventures?
The Amazon original offerings are typically sparse for March 2020 but still pack some punch. Italian import ZeroZeroZero stars Gabriel Byrne and arrives on May 6. Then British import Agatha Christie's The Pale Horse comes a little later on March 13.
For what it's worth, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot debuts on March 13 so it's not all horror and all European TV all the time.

We’ve already touched base on the Netflix titles heading our way next month, but what about Amazon Prime?
Though the former is widely considered to be the undisputed heavyweight of the online streaming world, it didn’t take long for Prime to become a tantalizing prospect, no thanks to kick-ass original series like The Expanse, The Boys and The Man in the High Castle.
The real issue for the end consumer is juggling all those subscriptions, particularly now that Disney+ is live across North America (March 24th for those in the UK). Be that as it may, as February nears its end, Amazon has detailed all of the content bound for Prime in March 2020.
Among the new additions are a host of big-name horror films, including Neil Marshall’s The Descent and its creepy sequel. Best of all? Pet Sematary, the reimagining of Stephen King’s literary developed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer.

‘Tis the season to be jolly… and what better way to start things off with a smile than to point out some truly unattractive holiday wardrobe choices? Here are a handful of the ugliest Christmas sweater to be found on TV and in films.
“Office Christmas Party” (2016): Kate McKinnon’s human resources rep in this ensemble comedy should have been ticketed by the fashion police.

It’s a few days before the autumn equinox, the leaves outside are still green and well attached to the trees, and Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford isn’t quite sure why he’s promoting a Christmas record right now. “I was surprised,” he says. “Our label says you have to start ramping these things up now. So I don’t think she should pigeon hole herself. But, I digress.
