Halle Berry, "Lost" star Matthew Fox and Colin Farrell have joined the ranks of presenters at the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards.
Berry is a three-time Globe nominee and won in 2000 for her work in the HBO movie "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge." Farrell won his first award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association last year for "In Bruges," and Fox was nominated for "Lost" in 2006 (the show also won that year, though this year its only nominee is Michael Emerson).
The trio joins previously announced presenters Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts and Mickey Rourke. Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio will present the Cecil B. De Mille Award to Martin Scorsese.
The Globes, hosted by Ricky Gervais, will air Sunday, Jan. 17 on NBC.

Mother and Child
Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not

Mark Strong on Sherlock Holmes, Peter Weir’s The Way Back, The Guard and Eagle Of The Ninth

About a week ago, I got to speak to an actor whose work I really admire: Mark Strong (IMDb resume). While many of you might not know his name, if you ever saw Body of Lies, he played a character named Hani Salaam and he was the best performance in the film. Since then, Strong has booked a ton of very high profile gigs in some of Hollywood’s biggest movies. Clearly people noticed his work and as a fan, I’m excited to see him in more movies.
Anyway, the reason I got to speak with him is he plays the villainous Lord Blackwood in director Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. During out conversation we discussed the promotional process for Sherlock Holmes and what he’s had to do, working for Guy Ritchie again, what he did to prepare for the role, and so much more.
And for fans of Peter Weir,

It had been a successful decade for the comic book movie, with that trend continuing into the latter half of the decade. Just as looked like the public demand for irradiated heroes looked to be diminishing, with lacklustre showings from the likes of Spider-Man 3 and Fantastic Four, out came Iron Man. Coupled with a brilliant script and an excellent performance from Robert Downey Jr as the titular zillionaire industrialist/playboy/freedom fighter/all-round genius, the end result was something truly special. Downey’s career was also revitalised, earning him a role in Tropic Thunder (which would earn him an Oscar nomination). Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk took a similar approach, this time giving Edward Norton of Fight Club fame a shot at getting under the skin of the green goliath.
They set a tough act to follow, but followed they were by one Christopher Nolan. With the Batman

Saoirse Ronan – for years we have bemoaned the lack of an Irish leading lady. Bemoan no more. Oscar material in “The Lovely Bones” and a young woman set for an incredible career in 2010 and beyond.
Colin Farrell – “In Bruges” won him his Golden Globe and the Dublin actor is suddenly showing a new maturity and consistency in his roles including in his latest “Crazy Heart” with Jeff Bridges. Expect big things in 2010.
Brendan Gleeson. His Emmy for Churchill was well deserved and his upcoming debut as Director of Flann O'Brien's book “At Swim Two Birds” may put him in the heat of the Oscar hunt in 2011. A career that just keeps getting better and better.
Gabriel Byrne. Won an overdue Emmy for “In Treatment” on HBO in which he stars as an Irish psychiatrist. Finally picking the right roles too after many years of dubious choices.
Alec Baldwin. Best actor on television.

Jeff Bridges is one of Hollywoods most successful actors and is now staring in "Crazy Heart," a story about broken down country singer Bad Blake. The film revolves around Blake's life on the road from sleeping in sleazy motels to playing at beer joints and bowling alleys. While living in the shadows of his young and successful protege played by Colin Farrell, Bad Blake must come to terms with his limitations. But that all changes when he falls harder then usual for Santa Fe journalist Jean Craddock played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Crazy Heart is based on the novel by Thomas Cobb and features original songs by T Bone Burnett.I had the chance to sit down and talk with Jeff Bridges about his Oscar worthy performance. He spoke to us about playing and singing in the film, about the similarities in the ways both actors and musicians live, working and performing with Colin Farrell,

Jeff Bridges Interview, Crazy Heart

Four-time Academy Award nominee Jeff Bridges stars as the richly comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero Bad Blake in the debut feature film Crazy Heart from writer-director Scott Cooper.
Bad Blake is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who’s had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (two-time Golden Globe nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles down the road of redemption, Bad learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man’s crazy heart.
Fueled by country rock, Crazy Heart also stars Robert Duvall and features original songs from Grammy-winning and Academy Award-nominated composer and producer T Bone Burnett along with the late Texas songwriter Stephen Bruton.

David Tennant's run as the tenth doctor is about to end. His three-series tenure will come to a close in January 2010, when the second part of "The End of Time" airs. However, fear not, you'll only have to wait a few more days for part one of the two-part finale, which will air on Christmas day in Britain, and a day later in America (the shortest delay between the UK and Us airings of the show yet). The second part will air in Britain on January 1, 2010, with an as-yet unknown airdate in the U.S.
The episode will also mark the end of Russel T. Davies' time on the show. Davies, who resurrected the series and wrote many, many episodes of the four seasons thus far, will be leaving the show after this episode. The changeover will be complete with the appearance of a new doctor. The eleventh doctor,

Just when you thought there was nothing more outta-left-field this week than a Mickey Rourke rap anthem: here is the first clip from David Cross's new TV pilot, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret. Back in June, we first reported on Cross's hopeful series about corporate hell co-starring Spike Jonze and Will Arnett, but we had since chalked it off to wet dream delirium. Cross, who directed and wrote the pilot, had taken note as well, referring to the mediocre cast as a "crazy dream team." Unfortunately, only dear readers in Blighty (and /Film's dearest Brendon) are privy to the entire pilot via the UK's Channel 4. For the rest of us law-abiding denizens, the three minute expletive-blizzard found after the jump ranks with the dwarf in In Bruges as pretty damn funny.

Possession(s), a new Australian short, featured one of the most notable launches in recent memory. To coincide with the film’s release a famous Peter Booth artwork, Painting (Man With Bandaged Head), was sold off in The Deutscher and Hackett Important Fine Art Auction.
The tie-in between the film and the auction comes in the shape of actor Laurence Fuller who used the painting, which he owned, as inspiration for the dark, brooding short. His character Frank, upon seeing the Peter Booth work, becomes embroiled with a sense of obsession; he simply has to own the piece and will do anything to make it so. However, it soon becomes clear that Frank is not the only one consumed by the desire to possess.
Laurence Fuller shines in the lead role and it is easy to see why he is a much sought after young actor. Having attended the Method

I was hoping for something original a la In Bruges, what we have here with Ian Fitzgibbon's Perrier's Bounty is much of the same stuff we've seen before: find money within 24 hours and have goons chase you around town issuing death threats. - Too bad. You'd think the trifecta of vets Brendan Gleeson and Jim Broadbent and a desperate looking Cillian Murphy would make this crime romp into a tad more passable. I was hoping for something original a la In Bruges, what we have here with Ian Fitzgibbon's Perrier's Bounty is much of the same stuff we've seen before: find money within 24 hours and have goons chase you around town issuing death threats. Too dependent on drunken sailor's lingo, lame comedy elements, uninteresting romantic story-line and swinging motions a la Tiger Woods, this feels recycled and quickly forgettable. Crazy Heart Poster, The Oscar Contender Earning Comparisons to The Wrestler

When I reported on Crazy Heart in 2008, the film was affiliated with the Cmt network, yet drew my interest with a cast that included Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Robert Duval. All of these actors excel in roles steeped in the weathering of life and excess, and this tale of, "a washed-up, alcoholic country singer (Bridges) who gets his life back on track thanks to a reporter-type (Gyllenhaal)," obviously played to those strengths on the surface. The addition to the cast of Colin Farrell, forever in our good graces for In Bruges, made this a must-see no matter what.
Well, here we are in the fourth quarter of '09 and the performance by Bridges is in the thick of Oscar buzz, drawing early comparisons to Mickey Rourke's unflinching, redemptive arc in The Wrestler. Furthering this parallel, Crazy Heart is being distributed by Fox Searchlight, the company behind Darren Aronofsky

Just a few days back Robert Carlyle used the Scottish BAFTAs as a platform to voice his displeasure of the British film industry. There have been no decent films produced here, he said, since Trainspotting.
Studying Carlyle’s words, he has a point; the cinematic output of Great Britain primarily regurtiates the same type of film over and over. Chief amongst them are the kitchen sink tragedy and the costume drama. However, there is a third type of high profile movie produced on these shores which generally lead to much commercial success. This genre can be, for all intents and purposes, attributed to one man. This, the third entry into the British cinema canon, is the “Richard Curtis movie”.
Since graduating from television writing, Curtis has pioneered an individualistic approach to the world of cinema relying heavily on picture postcard locations in Southern England, syrupy sentiment, “comedy” swearing and middle-class males indulging in linguistic mishaps.

I feel very compelled to write about foreign actresses. Many I admire, some are colleagues, and most are around my age. There is so much young female talent circling around France, my adopted home country. Someone had to write about it! So here is a list, and those to look out for in upcoming films, all coming from France-and hopefully to take the Us by storm very soon.
5. Isild Le Besco
This young woman has it all. Beauty, grace, and a raw energy and eerie presence on the big screen. I first saw her with Emmanuelle Seigner in the French drama Back Stage and she is heartbreaking. Her big eyes, her ability to cry from the inner parts of her soul, make her effective, and she carried a talent on her shoulders that is certainly exciting.

A.C.T. Young Conservatory (Yc) proudly presents Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan, directed by W. D. Keith. Three teenagers living on a tiny island off the coast of Ireland in 1933 dream of escaping the dreary confines of their lives, but no one more so than "Cripple" Billy, a disabled orphan and village outcast. When the local gossip spreads the news that a Hollywood film crew is shooting a movie on a neighboring island, the three teens set sail to try for a role in the film-but Billy embarks on an altogether different kind of journey. This dark comedy by Tony Award-winning Irish writer Martin McDonagh, writer and director of the hit film In Bruges, delivers witty banter, piercing dialogue, and a cast of local characters as genuinely likable as they are imperfect, brilliantly performed by A.C.T.'s Young Conservatory. The Cripple of Inishmaan plays November 6-14, 2009, at Zeum Theater,
