- President Charles Logan: I don't see where any of this becomes your business, Mike.
- Mike Novick: I'll tell you where, Mr. President. I'm your Chief of Staff - if there's something going on that I don't know about that involves national security, it is my business.
- President Charles Logan: This isn't national security, Mike - it's our marriage.
- Ross: Hey, whaddya got? Little voice-over-IP goin' on there?
- Chloe: Please leave me alone.
- Ross: No, seriously, I can help. I know a way for you to get some free bandwidth.
- Chloe: Really?
- Ross: Absolutely.
- Chloe: Sit down!
- Ross: Cool!
- [Examining her laptop]
- Ross: Wow, nice piece. Never seen one of these before. What is that?
- Chloe: [zaps him with a stun-gun, knocking him out] A CTU Series 4.
- Martha Logan: What is your first name, Agent Adams?
- Justin Adams: Justin, ma'am.
- Martha Logan: You don't have much personality, do you, Justin?
- Karen Hayes: [Over the phone] are you out? The field team's almost there
- Bill Buchanan: Chloe's packing up the COMM gear she needs to stay in touch with Jack
- Karen Hayes: Where is Jack?
- Bill Buchanan: Van Nuys Airport: his stowed away on a diplomatic flight that just took off
- Karen Hayes: What? Why?
- Bill Buchanan: His trying to find a recording that implicates President Logan
- Karen Hayes: And someone on that flight has it?
- Bill Buchanan: Yes and we don't know who: that's what Chloe's been trying to find out
- Mike Novick: [Talking privately] we've been through some times before: just follow the doctor's orders for now
- Martha Logan: This is more than a tough time. None of this is going away, I just have to live with it
- Mike Novick: What'd you mean it's not going to go away? What're you talking about?
- Martha Logan: I shouldn't say
- Mike Novick: It's me: say what needs to be said
- Martha Logan: What needs to be said, I can't say to you
- Mike Novick: Why not?
- Martha Logan: I just need to get some sleep, my nerves are shot from today, I just something to calm me down. I just need to get my medication
- Mike Novick: The President doesn't want you to leave the room
- Martha Logan: Then you can bring it here. I just need to take couple pills to help me sleep. You can watch me take them
- Mike Novick: [Before leaving] I'll see what I can do
- Graem: [Over the phone] have they found Bauer yet?
- President Charles Logan: No, they haven't
- Graem: That's not good
- President Charles Logan: I know that's not good, I'm putting pressure everywhere I can
- Graem: I don't think I have to tell you how disastrous it would be if Bauer gets his hands on that recording
- President Charles Logan: That's exactly right: you don't have to tell me, I know. When I find him, I will call you. Is there anything else?
- Graem: No
- President Charles Logan: [Before hanging up] good
- Martha Logan: [Referring to her medication] so, do you have something for me?
- Mike Novick: [Handing her a medicine bottle] this is enough for a couple days: Dr. Hill is going to...
- Martha Logan: [Snatches the bottle from his hand] that's enough. I'm going to get ready for bed now, was there something else?
- Mike Novick: Yes, there is. Earlier you said something to the effect that I didn't know about everything going on
- Martha Logan: I was confused, I wanted my pills
- Mike Novick: I don't think so
- Martha Logan: Are you calling me a liar?
- Mike Novick: I just spoke with the President, I got the same feeling from him that I got from you
- Martha Logan: Which is?
- Mike Novick: You're both covering something up
- Martha Logan: You know, I'm the one around here that's suppose to be paranoid: not you
- Mike Novick: I know you and I know the President. he said this is all about "marital difficulties." I think there's something else: what is it? Don't shut me out, maybe I can help you?
- Martha Logan: There is something else, but it's between me and Charles. If that changes, I promise I'll let you know
- President Charles Logan: [Over the phone] I just got word from the FAA about a "hijacking" aboard a diplomatic flight that left Van Nuys half an hour ago
- Graem: So what?
- President Charles Logan: Jack Bauer is the hijacker
- Graem: What's he doing on that plane?
- President Charles Logan: Looking for the recording that implicates me in David Palmer's death: Henderson handed it off to someone before he was arrested: Jack must know his on board
- Graem: You shouldn't be wasting your time talking to me. Order that plane down and grab Bauer before he can hurt us
- Mike Novick: [Over the phone] what is it?
- Miles Papazian: I need your input because I'm having a problem with Karen Hayes. I'd like to preface what I'm about to tell you by saying that I don't wish to be second guessed...
- Mike Novick: [Interrupts him] I don't have time for prefaces: Karen Hayes was called in to replace Bill Buchanan. She was hand chosen by the Vice President to take that post
- Miles Papazian: I understand that sir
- Mike Novick: Are you saying she's "unfit" to do the job?
- Miles Papazian: Four hours she relived Bill Buchanan for ineffectual leadership. His been working covertly with Chloe O'Brian to aid Jack Bauer: a federal fugitive which means Buchanan needs to be dealt with appropriately
- Mike Novick: What's Karen done?
- Miles Papazian: She sent a Tact team to pick them both up and by the time they got there, O'Brian was gone but instead of having the team do the interrogation to Buchanan on site, Karen wasted twenty minutes by bringing him into CTU
- Mike Novick: Maybe she felt the interrogation would be more effective with CTU resources?
- Miles Papazian: But sir, she isn't even using rudimentary CTU resources: she wants to do a soft Q and A by herself. Any leads we may had on O'Brian have dried up
- Mike Novick: Wait a second, I'm not going to pass judgment on Karen Hayes at this point. She's not interrogating a terrorist, she's dealing with a high ranking federal employee. Sometimes finesse and diplomacy are better than coercion. Your concern is duly noted. If you'll excuse me I need to see the President
- Karen Hayes: [while in an interrogation room] we're offline: now we can talk
- Bill Buchanan: You can continue this charade of me being under arrest if you want to but Jack needs our help
- Karen Hayes: And his getting it but make no mistake I am still in charge of this facility and until I see that evidence, I must remain skeptical
- Bill Buchanan: Have you talked to Chloe?
- Karen Hayes: Yes
- Bill Buchanan: What's Jack's status?
- Karen Hayes: His searching the cabin for the evidence but the pilot is going to land that plane
- Bill Buchanan: How much time does Jack have?
- Karen Hayes: Fifteen minutes
- Bill Buchanan: To search over fifty passengers? That's impossible
- President Charles Logan: [Over the speakerphone, as Mike stands nearby, referring to the flight number] talk to me about 520
- Karen Hayes: We know Bauer's involved but we don't know why
- President Charles Logan: Isn't it obvious Bauer's a fugitive and looking for safe passage out of the country?
- Karen Hayes: That's certainly a possibility Sir
- President Charles Logan: Listen to me, this man is desperate, he will say anything or do anything, his not to be trusted. we need to take him down now: dead or alive
- Karen Hayes: Yes Sir
- President Charles Logan: You call the pilot, tell him I don't care if Bauer is making threats or not, that plane has to land immediately. When it lands, I want my Secret Service to take him into custody, is that clear?
- Mike Novick: This still doesn't make sense to me
- President Charles Logan: What?
- Mike Novick: Jack Bauer has been on the right side of everything that's happened today: up until now
- President Charles Logan: Right now he is hijacking a plane. This man is not stupid, his "appeared" to do the right thing but right now his backed into a corner and his desperate
- Mike Novick: Do you really believe that Sir?
- President Charles Logan: I absolutely do. Bauer's lied to us all day, his played us all for fools
