Very Odd Episode
Hitchcoc11 February 2020
This is a bit of a fragmented mess. Wycliffe dodders around, growing more and more paranoid. Meanwhile, the search goes on for a high class prostitute who has disappeared. The whole thing has some serious holes that need to be filled. I have a feeling the series was running out of gas at this point.

Writer Peter Hammond must have been instructed to do something different. As the creator of Sapphire and Steel, he has form.

Detective Sergeant Caplin (Gerard Horan) has a reputation of being the one man vice squad in his patch of Cornwall. When a prostitute tells him that a punter told her that he had killed another prostitute three nights earlier. Doug Kersey is called in.

At first Kersey is sceptical, the prostitute is not regarded as reliable. However both look for a recently missing woman.

Meanwhile Wycliffe is pottering around his house and he has concerns about one of his neighbours. He goes to see DI Lane about it. The neighbour has been logged as a kerb crawler in the past.

Is this weird neighbour linked to the death of the prostitute?

Plaudits has to be given to director Alan Wareing for making the best out of the script. Unfortunately it just does not hang too well.

Warning: Spoilers
This series sometimes leaves untied episodes. A few turn out to be cliffhangers. This is was a not one of those. There were at ;east three cases of scenes that were not tied up. What happened to the taxi driver? Any bodies ever found at the Millau bridge? Who was the guy with the van? How did he wind up hanging there? Who sent the van into the water?
