It is stated by Terry that his oft-referenced estranged German wife Jutta is coming to see him (and actress April Walker does receive a credit as such) but she makes no appearance in the broadcast episode. The sequence was filmed, with a suitably Teutonic-looking Jutta arriving at the airport. This was intended to seed a strand in the next series, as Terry coped with his wife's uncomfortable demands. However producer James Gilbert felt the ending with the Ferris' leaving Terry alone was more satisfying. Ironically at around the same time Walker was chosen as the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee)'s companion Sarah Jane Smith in Doctor Who (1963), before the part was recast with Elisabeth Sladen owing to Pertwee's preference for acting alongside a less statuesque actress. (Walker was at least paid for the full series which she never appeared in.)
The photo album belonging to Bob which is seen in the opening credits of each episode (and which is first mentioned in the Tea-chest episode) is first given by Bob to Terry as a parting gift, but is then returned by Terry to Bob as a token of their friendship and the change in their relationship following Bob's marriage to Thelma.
