'The Vicar of Dibley' was one of those beloved sitcoms that we always wanted to come back for one more special, because we loved the characters so much. Sometimes though you regret that wish afterwards.
I never thought these anniversary specials were much good, too much time had gone by, everyone looked a bit older, and the quality of the writing wasn't as good. The show thankfully recovered by the next time it returned, but these episodes were average.
This one in particular attracted a bit of negative press for its political message, which some felt was being rammed down our throats. While I think its true that it does forget that its a comedy mid way through the episode, equally these characters would get behind the campaign and good for all involved for bringing it to the centre of the public's mind via a comedy.
Not 'Dibley' at its best, but still better than most.
