Hudson plays 'Sherlock Holmes'!!
arrival25 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
July 1909 A broach goes missing at Eaton Place, and suspicion falls upon some of the servants. Everybody's upset naturally - but not as much as Miss Roberts! She takes the suspicions really badly. Though some viewers might find this attribute rather comic at times, this ordeal does actually come in useful for the script-writers in the early part of the next season, when the plot sends 'Roberts' to an Asylum! This story shows her to be highly-strung and over-emotional - not to mention paranoid; all of which would make her more susceptible to such an ending to her character.

This was one of two award-winning performances by the great actress Patsy Smart who played 'Roberts' from the beginning of the series in 1903, for almost ten years until 1912 when she was 'put away'.

There's a particularly good scene in this between Rose and Thomas showing their jealousy over Sarah's affections. This was yet another subtle hint at homosexuality within the characters that was becoming a trend!
