Faith Dane played bugle-tooting, burlesque stripper Mazeppa in both the original Broadway production and subsequent film version of "Gypsy." However, not cast in the 70s Broadway revival, Dane sued the producers, claiming the role of Mazeppa was largely her own characterization; although her suit wasn't successful, as a consequence of it, a "Faith Dane clause" in actors' contracts was created, which grants rights to actors for any creative work they contribute to the development of characters in productions.
