Tiny Toon shopping

'Tiny Toon Adventures' proved frequently that it could do episodes structured as (mostly three) segments very well. The quality in most may not have been consistent, with for example one segment being especially great and another only average, but all the show's segment-structured episodes have a huge amount to recommend. "The Acme Home Shopping Show" did sound like the sort of premise that would suit the show well if executed well.

For me, "The Acme Home Shopping Show" executed the premise acceptably but there was definitely room for doing a lot more with the premise. Which it could easily have done if all three segments ("Oh for Art's Sake", "Teddy Bears Picnic" and "I Was a Teenage Bunnysitter") were relevant to the episode's theme. Whilst two of the segments for "The Acme Home Shopping Show" worked well on their own merits, one has never done much for me at all.

That segment being "Teddy Bears Picnic". It's nicely animated, the three bears are a nice addition and reminds one fondly of their appearances on Looney Tunes and has the odd amusing moment. It is not that funny, lacks the show's usual wacky energy, can be too cute and even for somebody meant in the story to be a pest Elmyra is beyond obnoxious.

Luckily, the other two segments fare a lot better. "Oh for Art's Sake" is zany and colourful entertainment with some nice sharp wit and sight gags, plus a good deal more tasteful than its synopsis sounds. Plus of the three segments it is closest to the basic theme and in a way the only one to be properly relevant to it. My favourite of the segments is "I Was a Teenage Bunnysitter", the funniest, the wackiest and the most interesting story-wise, plus it revolves around Babs on top form. Also really enjoyed the wraparound story, namely for Buster and Babs' chemistry.

Moving onto talking about individual elements, the animation is vibrantly coloured and beautifully rich in detail, not just the backgrounds but also the expressions and reactions of the characters which are wonderfully loony. The music is dynamic and characterful as always and the theme song has always brought a smile to my face. Something that was the case when a child and still is now.

A vast majority of the characters are well characterised, with only Elmyra not doing anything for me. All the voice acting is on the money.

In conclusion, decent but could have done more with the premise. 7/10
