After the 4 Adam 14 officer is shot and his partner is getting into the car to radio for help, an actual California Highway Patrol (CHP) motorcycle officer can be seen stopped in a line of traffic behind him. This reveals the incident was staged, as if it had been real, the CHP officer would have responded vs just sitting in traffic.
When the female and male are being taken to the station from the apartment complex, as Corrigan pulls away a flood light and crew member are reflected in the rear side window of the police car.
Armor piercing (AP) bullets will penetrate a Kevlar vest as was used by officers in the 1980's, but it would not remain inside the body as was shown. Wounds such as the ones described are caused by regular bullets that deform and deflect- something AP bullets do not do. The AP bullet would have most likely exited the rear of the body armor, at worst it would be stopped by the back panel of the armor. Additionally, the force of the bullet would not throw even a lightweight person like Stacy as was shown, so she would not have received the head injury as described. In reality, AP bullets are terrible for stopping a human being. Stacy would have been able to draw her gun and return fire.
In yet another display of improper procedure, when Hooker, Corrigan, and Romano go to the apartment building, all 3 enter from the front. In a situation such as that, the third officer covers the rear to prevent the male suspect from fleeing- which he did. A seasoned officer, supervisor, and training officer such as Hooker would know that.
