Shooting a van through the rear doors would not cause it to explode.
Hooker says the "Brockman 30" army submachine gun (actually an H&K MP5) fires 177 rounds every 6 seconds. This equates to a cyclical fire rate of 1,770 rounds per minute. While multi-barrel machine guns used on military vehicles can attain a rate of fire 6,000 rounds/minute, the cyclical rate for the MP5 is at best 900 rounds per minute, so that rate of fire was impossible for the weapon shown.
The "Brockman 30" gun's real make and model is a Heckler & Koch MP5 with a laser sight attached. Ironically, this was the same weapon used by LAPD SWAT officers around the same time as the series. The MP5 had been in production since 1966, so it was not a new weapon.
The dispatcher, when announcing officers respond to the jewelry store robbery, tells T. J. Hooker to "handle Code 2" (which means lights but no sirens). But you can clearly hear and see Hooker's police unit running both the sirens and the lights.
Hooker has been alone in the car all season, yet his call sign is still 4-Adam-30. The Adam designation is for a 2 person car.
The "VCR" boxes the warehouse manager pushes onto Hooker were clearly empty props.
The laser on the gun is misaligned from the barrel.
Hooker says the "Brockman 30" army submachine gun fires 177 rounds every 6 seconds or about 30 rounds per second, yet in the bursts shown being fired using the gun, nowhere near that amount of rounds hit the target. Using a 30 round magazine such as the ones shown in the show, firing 177 rounds every 6 seconds would empty the magazine in 1 second, yet characters are shown firing much longer bursts. In fact the MP5 fires at a maximum rate of 900 rounds per minute or 90 rounds every 6 seconds. This would double the firing time to 2 seconds, which was still exceeded by characters using the gun.
At the wholesale jewelry store, the police arrive well before the TV crew and cover the exits, yet the crew with equipment gets inside well before the police.
In the final gun battle with "Johnny", Hooker fires 9 rounds from a 6 shot revolver.
O'Brien says after the shooting he wants Hooker out of the black and white and to use Corrigan and Stacy, yet all three remain in uniform in black and white police cars for much of the time afterward.
Corrigan blames the reporter for the reason why they could not catch the robbers. In fact it was once again his incompetence that caused it. After the robbers shot the TV van, Corrigan and Stacy just sat in their car and did not pursue the robbers.
Being a seasoned copper, as Corrigan is supposed to be, he should have noticed the two shifty blokes going into the jewellers as he left. He certainly should have heard the machine gun fire.
