Danger, Ken Hutchinson
monomerd17 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The plot for this episode is probably straight from most men's nightmares. Hutch spends the night with a woman he just met. Nothing too unusual about that, and she certainly seemed like a nice, normal woman to get cozy with. But then she shows up at his apartment the next night, uninvited. Starsky finds Hutch's uncomfortable situation humorous at first, and Hutch is mostly just annoyed at himself for picking a clingy female to get involved with. Neither of them expect that this woman can be any real harm, just a temporary annoyance. Until she shows up to scream at Hutch at his place of work. And then completely trashes his apartment. Still, she's just a small, overly-emotional woman and can't really present a threat, can she?

The tension and the danger in this episode slowly builds, but Starsky and Hutch don't react very quickly, which is frustrating as a viewer but rings true to how it would happen in real life. I think PMG and DS play the scenes just right, even though I wanted Starsky to be more concerned sooner. It would make sense that neither of them would think of this small female as a major threat. Karen Valentine plays the woman just perfectly, seemingly normal one moment and totally out of control the next.

i really like the scene where she comes to the police station and screams at Hutch for standing her up. He is confused and mortified in front of his co-workers. Starsky stands right there with Hutch; he does not leave Hutch to face this tirade on his own. Starsky watches this crazed woman rant, and you can see he's finally realizing that this situation is not right. But neither of them still have a clue just how dangerous she will become.

This is a very good episode with good pacing and acting and dialog. There is suspense and danger of a kind that Starsky and Hutch are not tuned into, and they almost learn the hard way.

Be My Valentine
sambase-3877314 August 2021
A tour-de-force acting job by Karen Valentine. That's the standout feature of this fine and shocking episode. Sometimes it's hard to figure out where women are coming from and that's the case with this story of love and hate. First love, then hate.

It's a well-written episode that makes the whole thing believable. This could be straight out of real life. We meet all kinds of people as we go through life, some of them with bad intentions, and others that are just plain sick. Sometimes it's hard to sort it all out. Hutch finds himself in that situation. And he does his best to both save himself and to understand.

Be careful with the spiteful women
RauloCastillo14 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In Argentina, there is a saying that says: "I'd rather take a tooth from a hungry lion than face a spiteful woman" (spiteful means despised, betrayed, enraged, with a thirst for revenge). However, Hutch never imagined that sweet, cute and beautiful Diana would become Godzilla.

Forever Diana!
JasonDanielBaker1 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Detectives Ken Hutchinson (David Soul) and David Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) team with streetwise undercover specialist Officer Linda Baylor (Roz Kelly) to trap a drug kingpin. A minor injury incurred during an unrelated arrest sends Hutch to the hospital where a charming but flighty young nurse Diana (Karen Valentine) develops an infatuation for him whilst treating him.

He likes her...At first. Certainly enough to spend the night with her. Then things get awkward. Then they get weird. Then they become downright chilling. Hutch didn't expect it and I sure didn't either. That is why it works the way it does. It reflects what real-life stalkers (back when it wasn't even part of the societal vernacular) actually do to their victims.

This episode is a little bit out of left field for fans of the series and momentarily disrupts the tight formula they had going. In other words there is an awful lot to like about it not just for audiences but probably for the regular cast and crew. They had an opportunity to add more to what they were doing and they took it.

Starsky and Hutch are still on a criminal case. They still work as hard as ever, still take risks other cops won't and still have cutesy little bromance moments like they do in any other episode. But, seemingly out of the blue, there is a stalker. Not a vindictive criminal they have put away. Just a lonely, disturbed woman who developed an obsession with a guy she met then proceeded to terrorize him in ways a nefarious hoodlum adversary wouldn't think to.

Normally on this show our two bachelor heroes would meet and get acquainted with women in meaningless flings in any given episode. Diana seems like any one of the perky, fun-loving young women these guys ever hooked up with until she doesn't. The abruptness of the revelation of her true nature and intentions hit Hutch and the audience like music stopping. The rhythm is replaced by something else.

Crazy Dianna, did you have an obsession with guys before or did Hutch lead you in a little ?
donnamariejones9 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Love this episode even though like others clearly mentioned there's some questions like Hutch and why he keeps a set of keys over his door. I understand and would not be happy if someone I just met a day before helped themselves to getting in my apt. Although the day he met her he was already chummy chummy with her and basically "in bed"with her. So in that instance her cooking him dinner didn't seem too forward but I think he led her in a little by being so intimate with her the first night. Interesting how people like Dianna can start out acting normal and then up crazy so fast as she did. And there was no inkling to that the first night Hutch met her. Except I do question she was eavesdropping and admitted following him to the bar. Ha ha lol I could really relate to how awkward Hutch was suppose to be feeling after catching Diana in his apt. And how the look in his face was while out with Starsky and his girlfriend dancing. His facial expressions said it all about how he felt about Diana. Interesting too that someone like her worked as a nurse apparently showing no signs of her behavior to come. Unless your suppose to assume she did and maybe that's why she newly just moved in. So I was questioning if she had a history of acting the way she did. Although no mention was made to it. Funny too she was suppose to be so busy working yet she had plenty of time to stalk and watch him and the female cop. She also appeared maybe to have flexible hours because she appears to work in the day, the night and funny she got off from work the first night at what would appear to be an odd hour for nurse to be getting off duty. I know because I'm retired pedi nurse - started working 3-11 shift back in the early 80's. On occasion of short handed we could be asked to switch or work overtime on another shift and there were times when iff especially later after I had my daughter, when I worked part time to be asked to work extra shift, day ir overtime. (Took me a while to realize they'd ask me a lot to work extra because I was part time - made sense as far as possibly being available to ask me - but big reason too was they didn't have to pay me overtime and saved money on me).on occasion which had a lot of pros was that I'd get called sometimes after 3-11 shift started to be asked to come on 4, 5 or 6 till 11 because they were crazy busy. I loved working that way- the night was shorter, went quick and did not get the usual patient assignment. Instead I'd come in and just help out wherever I was needed. Very little charting and mostly all hands on patient care.

Cop leaves key above door!
gill-515479 February 2020
What sensible person leaves their door key on top of the door, let alone a police officer. And then after the bunny boiler lets herself into his apartment, he continues to leave it there. Beggars belief. I struggled with his stupidity on this one
