- Photographer Paul Forrester decides to photograph an erupting volcano when he is caught in the eruption and killed. At the same time, the Starman has returned to seek Jenny Hayden and their child. He clones the dead photographer's body and finds his son, whose name is Scott and is living in an orphanage. George Fox has decided that the Starman's initial visit was a reconnaissance mission for a potential invasion, and believes that he will return. He sets up a department and begins the hunt.—Anonymous
- The Starman returns when he hears a call from the device he left behind with Jenny Hayden.
The device is actually in the posession of Scott Hayden, the teenaged son that was the result of his previous visit. Jenny disappeared years ago, leaving Scott with another couple, the Lockharts. The couple dies in a car accident that Scott mysteriously survives. His survival puts him back on the radar of the government agents that lost track of him when his mother disappeared.
Once again the Starman inhabits the form of a resurrected dead man, this time a roguish photpgrapher. He finds Scott, who resents his mother for "abandoning" him, and his father even more for never having been around. Once he finds out that his father is not human, he's even less happy, but with the governemnt after them, they go on the run together. The two go in search of Jenny, who has been missing for years.
