In the beginning of this episode, Tom Paris and Harry Kim both try to guess Tuvok's age unsuccessfully, and unfortunately Tuvok never reveals his real age. According to the Official Star Trek Chronology, the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991), which was also depicted in Flashback (1996) occurred in the year 2293. In "Flashback", Tuvok told Captain Janeway he was 29 years old when he served on the USS Excelsior, which would put his birth year at 2264. Assuming this episode took place in 2376 (Star Trek: Voyager (1995) takes place between 2371 and 2378), this would place Tuvok's age at 112 years during this episode.
Implicitly based on the Stephen King novel/movie Christine (1983), wherein a young man's automobile is possessed of an evil spirit. The machine takes on the nature of a jealous girlfriend and tries to kill any human it sees as a rival for his affections. Since Stephen King novels often feature characters who discuss Star Trek (1966), this may be Trek's way of returning the favor.
John Fleck (Abaddon) appeared on three episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) (as a different character each time) and also played the recurring character Silik of Suliban in Star Trek: Enterprise (2001). This is his only Voyager appearance.
The framing of the first onscreen image of Abaddon is reminiscent of Voyager's first view of Neelix in Caretaker (1995), with both traders' faces awkwardly too close to the camera.
47 reference: Kim reports that, thanks to Abaddon's regulators, Voyager's power fluctuation is down to 4.7%.
