Bonnie Bartlett joins the main cast in this episode, after appearing as a recurring guest star since season one. She is the only member of the main cast whose character is not an employee of the hospital.
The title is from the 1908 novel "A Room with a View" by E.M. Forster, about a young woman in Edwardian England, which was made into two films of the same name (A Room with a View (1985) and A Room with a View (2007)). The plot also bears some resemblance to the events of Rear Window (1954).
Mrs Jeffries mentions "that time when the bird man jumped off the roof", this is a reference to Ralph's suicide in Graveyard (1983).
