As the Sliders are walking along the beach after exiting the portal, John Rhys-Davies, who plays Arturo, says, "I don't know about Paradise, but I was in a place called Eden once, in Tunisia in North Africa. Nasty fly-infested place". This is an obvious in-joke paralleling an experience the actor may have had in Tunisia working on the film Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).
The town of Paradise is the film set for Murder, She Wrote.
Two locations are listed on a sign at the beach: Paradise Beach and Barnette. The last is a reference to executive producer Alan Barnette.
This episode shares its title with the 1667 epic poem in blank verse by John Milton.
The opening sequence may be inspired by the "Dune" novels and films and/or the "Tremors" franchise.
