- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: [re murder victim who made out his dedication to "the lady in the front row"] Maybe his wife caught him with the lady in the front row.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: [smiles] Well, that would make me cranky.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Can anyone alibi you for last night?
- Grace Sharp: Is your first name Tom?
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Yeah. Yeah, it is. Why?
- Grace Sharp: I thought so. No, no one can alibi me, but I was here, watching TV.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Mrs. Meisner, did Derek Sharp ever threaten to expose your affair?
- Chloe Meisner: [very confident, sitting with her long legs crossed] He wouldn't. He didn't have a reason to.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: So your husband doesn't mind you having an affair? He wouldn't divorce you or seek revenge in any other way?
- Chloe Meisner: Fred? Fred's got his affairs and I've got mine.
- [uncrosses her legs, leans forward]
- Chloe Meisner: We're just one big happy family.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: [phone rings] Sergeant Ryan. Yeah, hi. No? Uh, no, I'm not doing anything tonight. Yeah, seven-thirty will be fine.
- [Cassy looks up from her work]
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Okay, bye.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Well?
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Oh, that was Grace. Wants me to go to her place tonight and watch the Nebraska game.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Really? You know, she seems nice.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Yeah, nice.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: [nods] Yeah, nice.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Yeah, she probably is nice.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Well, then you should have a good time.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: You're not concerned about her being Sharp's ex-wife?
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: No. Should I be?
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: No, of course not.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Well, then, there you go. It's fine by me.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: You know,
- [gets up]
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: sometimes, when we were married, you used to say "fine," but what you really meant was "not fine."
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Are you trying to get me to tell you not to go?
- [shakes her head]
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: [pouts] No.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Fine.
- [he shrugs, she gets on with her desk-work again]
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: [at topless bar] You sure?
- Twin Dancer, Twin Dancer: [pretty blondes in short pink dresses] Yeah, we're sure.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: They're sure.
- Nate Patterson: Ladies, ladies, ladies! What a coincidence that we should run into each other here. I was merely pausing to refresh myself after a long day, and I peruse you from the bar, and I thought it would be unneighborly of me not to come over and say hello.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Hello.
- [chuckles]
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Goodbye.
- [turns to leave]
- Nate Patterson: I just had an interesting conversation with Laurie at the bar. It seems that this establishment has recently been involved with several unpleasant hawkers in your vice division, and currently they're not very well disposed towards officers of the law. But! I would be willing to bet that you ladies would not mind conversing with my friend Ben.
- [holds up hundred dollar bill]
- Twin Dancer: [wants more than just that] Does he have any brothers?
- Twin Dancer: [Nate produces another hundred dollar bill] I thought he came from a bigger family.
- Nate Patterson: Well, after this, his mother decided to call it quits.
- Twin Dancer, Twin Dancer: He was here.
- Twin Dancer: And he kept trying to stuff dollar bills in our G-strings...
- Twin Dancer, Twin Dancer: ...with his mouth!
- Twin Dancer: We told him to stop...
- Twin Dancer: And he slapped Meg!
- [points to her sister]
- Twin Dancer: He left out at that end.
- Det. Sgt. Cassandra 'Cassy' St. John: Do you remember what time he was here?
- Twin Dancer: Well, we were on our last dance.
- Twin Dancer: It was around...
- Twin Dancer, Twin Dancer: ...three-thirty.
- Twin Dancer: Yeah.
- Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan: Thank you.
- Twin Dancer, Twin Dancer: Sure.
- Grace Sharp: [re going blind] I am not a hundred percent positive about what I want from a man, Tom, but I'm sure it's not sympathy.
