This isn't a favorite episode of mine but it's another really good one. Other than another anti drug one but there other messages in this one which make it stand out on integrity and disillusionment.
The jist is on an anti drug commercial being shot in their school, and also that a celeb is going to be staring in it. I really like some of the gang's reactions toward both these things, personally I'd be absolutely psyched if there ever was a commercial shot at my school; there is always something fun about being seen on TV; but also an opportunity to add to crediticals if ever involved in the acting field.
The way that each of the gang act toward a famous celeb being at there school felt a bit realistic because their not people that most of us get to see every day. It would be kinda a dream come true to be friends with one or two of them, let alone the opportunity to date them.
We see at first Johnny doesn't seem to be an alright guy, he's not snobby or fame obsessed but is soicalable and easy to talk to and knows how to have a good time. But as an old saying goes, it's too good to be true; we see near the end that Johnny isn't the great guy the gang and even we see him as but that he is counterfeit. Which is ironic considering, he is famous for portraying a teenager even though in reality he's not.
The guy is a drug addict as he has been smoking dope which meant that roach both Zack and Slater found earlier was his, which I personally suspected it was. He also is really self centered thinking that just because he's a celeb he can have and do anything he wants; and that most of that niceness at the beginning was just an act as he was just trying to get on the kids good graces just to use them as tools for his own fame.
I really liked seeing the Bayside gang come though for each other and Bayside High. From a suspenseful scene which made me concerned for Kelly's well being as we see Johnny is peer pressuring her to smoke dope, she constantly says no as he keeps trying to have his way with her. Really liked Zack coming back and helping her out of danger, really shows what a good friend he is to her.
However what really stands out is seeing each of the Bayside gang refusing to do the commercial with Johnny, to do the commercial with him would be a lie toward what they believe in and a compromise of the integrity of the school and themselves. That moment just shows how strong the integrity of the characters really is, they have firm beliefs in right and wrong that must be respected; and those believes are higher than fame itself.
