Show's best episode so far.

Steel is in dangerous peril, close to a fate, which is quite literally worse than death, he needs the help of Sapphire.

I think this may just be the most comprehensive episode to date so far, it had several things strongly in its favour.

First of all, this one really did have the chill factor, here you actually get a true malign sense from the ghosts, they're not sweet, misguided or trapped, they seem to be presenting a true malign force, as though they mean real harm.

Secondly it's nice to see the roles reversed somehow, so far it's been Steel bailing Sapphire out, here we get to see the reverse happening, with her bailing him out, for the most part so far he's been playing the chivalrously knight on a white horse, it was good to see things changed up somewhat.

The direction is very slick, the use of lighting, shadows etc is excellent, it's genuinely a good looking show.

Very good, 8/10.

Assignment Two: Part 3

It was in this episode I first heard the world war one song; Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag.

So every time I hear the song I am reminded of Sapphire and Steel.

The climax of episode 2 saw Steel in danger. He thinks he was a fighter pilot and Sapphire has to quickly turn back time to save Steel. It is the first time we see Steel being scared.

Again it is Steel who realises that there is grave danger around. Tully just wants to get through to the ghosts, still seeing them as benign.

Steel wants to bring the ghosts out in the open. He persuades Tully to sing a famous world war one song and rig up the lights. The ghosts arrive but they also brings danger.

Throughout the story so far, Steel has been brusque towards Tully, showing none of the warmth to him that Sapphire has displayed. Maybe he knows something.

Steel is puzzled why the darkness is feeding on soldiers who knew they were going to die. That is something he needs to crack.

Given the small number of characters, with just a few sets. It is still an unsettling episode, the whole thing is just odd.
