The Saint goes grouse shooting in Scotland, near a top secret scientific base conducting specialised research.
When the Saint goes looking for a lost dog, he comes across a dead body in the moors. Later the body of a scientist is found in the research laboratory. The dead man had written the letters COP in his own blood.
Suspicion falls on Jock Ingram (James Maxwell) he is a cop and not too keen on shooting game. Simon Templar thinks that is too easy a set up. He is shock to learn that the base had created a death ray gun.
Maybe that is something available for sale to a foreign power. Not all the scientists working on the base were British.
There is a whiff of sci fi hokum about this story mixed in with espionage. It is also a nifty murder mystery. Lots of genres being mixed but the Saint remains in his element.
