Classic first episode to animated kid's show
When it came to the moment the kids of Third Street help break TJ out of detention, the "Recess" theme is played throughout the whole rescue scene which I like much, quite a good scene.
When TJ's friends (athlete Vince, tomboy Spinelli, nerdy girl Gretchen and big naïve pacifist Mikey) work out different ways getting TJ out: there's Guru Kid, the Diggers Sam and Dave (constantly argues like brothers), Swinger Girl, the wild kindergartners, and then their last shot is the playground's King Bob, who's seemingly mildly intimidating, very demanding and impatient. Even Spinelli rightfully points out he's a dumb kid, some deluded dictator of a big shot.
This is the first of the two (other is jungle gym standoff episode) where gang's sixth member, Gus Griswald, doesn't appear (as makes his debut in next episode).
The acidic cafeteria food, known as Tomato Surprise, is like extremely dangerous burning red soup as it melts metal hinges. I recall the one other time it was used in Halloween special: "Terrifying Tales of Recess" to melt the Finster zombies.
Ending is somewhat funny, when the gang question where are the Diggers - they, somehow, turn up at a kindergarten class in Beijing, China.
