Sgt Frank Dolan (Robert Forster) is breaking in a new partner on his narcotics beat, Sgt. Cruz (Richard Yniquez). Much of the film consists of the pair following leads and working with informants in order to bring in a big drug kingpin instead of just bringing in the junkies and petty dealers. But the Captain (John Ireland) doesn't want them spending all their time on the big bust and continually pushes them to just do their job and bring in the small fry. Through the course of their work, however, they get close to Mr. Big....but then tragedy strikes...twice.
This is a very good episode of "Police Story", albeit a very depressing one. You can't fault the show for that, as policework can be depressing and tough...and you see this in spades in this one. Well worth seeing.
