Witness for the Persecution (#5.12

Warning: Spoilers
Charlie is dealing with Daphne leaving and him being a single parent. Julia tries to figure out what is going on with Ned. Bailey and Sarah become victims of robbery and Bailey wants to make their place more secure. Griffin wants Claudia to play in his band.

They portrayed pretty well how Charlie is going through some stage of denial thinking that he has it all covered now that Daphne left and then it hitting him.

Story of Julia and Ned is also interesting. It seems that he genuinely doesn't realize that he hit her.

I especially liked Claudia and Griffin connecting with music. The scene where they first played was beautiful. I hope to see more of her with his band. Cody is silly. Such special additions help bands a lot. Let's just think of Nightwish combining metal and an opera singer. Perfect!

On the Verge of Collapse

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't like this episode. It wasn't enjoyable at all, I remember the first three-four seasons and there's no sense. It's like a completely different series. First is Sarah-Bailey story. They finally leave Owen in the house after two three episodes and then stop by the restaurant at night. A robber is present and threatens Sarah's life with a knife, asking Bailey for money. He gives it to him, the robber lets Sarah go and escapes. The two have different reactions: Sarah feels really unsafe and goes to counseling, while Bailey wants to overprotect Sarah, the restaurant and the loft. He even buys a gun and puts bars, with the help of an expert man in security. She is afraid of how paranoid he is becoming, but he says he will never want to feel so helpless again. Finally, the robber is caught, his name is Albert Terry and in the police station, they identify him. She still feels unsafe because there are many more robbers and thiefs outside, so he comforts her. This part was somehow the best of the episode, but the theme is already known. Sarah was robbed in Spring Breaks Part I, and Bailey already acted overprotective towards her. And she felt sad and unsafe too that time. This time was somehow worst, but my point is that I've seen this before in this series. The writers should have thought something different, which are the odds that Sarah gets robbed twice in less than 3 years? This didn't happened to any other character.

Then, there is Charlie's story of the day. Claudia helps him with Diana and he tells her how he had to babysitt Bailey and Julia when she was born. Owen returns, still mad at him and is only happy to see Claudia in the tent (unbelievable Owen doesn't sleep in some room considering how empty is the house). Claudia tries to talk to him about how he feels about Daphne's departure but he says he is fine. Bailey tries to do the same, but Charlie doesn't want to talk about it. Then, in a coffee shop, Kirsten, excited, tells him that Paul started the process for them to adopt a child. He says that's great (unbelievable line) and asks how it happened if Paul didn't want kids. She says he wants her to be happy. Then she apologizes because she knows he is alone and sad but he says he is fine and can't believe people pretends him to be sad. She says she cares about him. Then, it's Julia's turn: she finds Charlie in the basement, mad and throwing to the floor baby stuff and some Daphne's belongings. He can't believe that Daphne left her daughter and is mad/sad because people keeps leaving him. He knows how hard can be to take care of people, but he never left. Julia comforts him and make him focus on Diana. In the last episode, Charlie understood pretty well how Daphne felt, besides, he knew how she felt about motherhood since 4x24. So I can't buy that he feels bad about that. I rather believe that he feels bad, sad, mad because he is deeply alone. He seemed happy when Kirsten told him the adoption news, but considering his madness in the basement, I believe it affected him. The two things broke him: being alone again and feeling that Kirsten would have a child with other man, that would mean losing her forever (because a marriage can be ended, but a child is forever), that she definetely left him and wouldn't be able to help him with Diana, as she did in the last episodes. So that's why this episode was also on the verge of collapse, because it almost meant that Charlie and Kirsten would be separated forever, with different children, different couples. I know that won't happen, but the idea is really painful, hurtful, because they belong together. In her second and last scene today, Kirsten feared that Paul would retreat from adoption, because she really knows he doesn't want it, but he told her he just changed the date of a meeting. At least this showed that Kirsten is still aware that Paul can change his mind any minute, and fortunately, in next episode, he will.

Then, there is Julia's story. Following the hit, she returns home and asks Maggie, who is suspicious, to avoid Ned's questions. She helps with Diana and is happy to spend time with her family, including Sarah. But Ned appears in the house, is welcomed by Claudia and holds Diana, shocking Julia. When she confronts him, he denies the hit, saying he just grabbed her arm and that they got excited. She kicks him out anyway. Also, Griffin realizes that her arm is hurt, that she lied about it and observes Julia's anger towards Ned. But after Charlie's reaction in the basement, Julia starts having doubts and returns to Stanford, probably thinking in forgiving Ned. Here Julia is on the verge of commiting a huge mistake. Charlie may throw things violently but he never had the intention of hurting anyone. Bailey did the same in 1x18 with Jill. What Ned did is totally different, so she shouldn't accept it. On the other hand, Claudia plays the fiddle for Diana as she did for Owen previously, and hears Griffin playing the guitar. They play together and he decides to include her in his band. Cody, the bass player feels insulted about this, unlike the batterist, who accepts Claudia in the band. Cody angrily leaves because Griffin prefers Claudia, and despite her doubts, she accepts to stay playing in the band. Claudia's story today could have been better, I'm not so into this band theme, I prefer Claudia as a chelist like her mother.
