Claudia and Julia ponder about their future professions. Julia meets an english novelist who offers to read one of her stories, to check if she is good enough writer to follow that career as a proffesional. She tries it, but after a not good review of her essay she feels disappointed. Charlie helps her, listening her thoughts and reading the review for her. Then, in a interview at Stanford (where her mother went), she feels lost about the questions and doesn't know what she wants for her future. She finds out that Diana first chose a Photograh career in Stanford before deciding to be a violinist, and confides this with Charlie. Somehow, she feels comforted by her mother and stops worrying about her future because she is still young to choose. In the meantime, Claudia, with Avery's support (he returns after season 1), wants to enter in a Conservatory, leaving school, but Charlie and Ross are opposed to it. As Julia, she feels her mother's presence inside and thinks that's what she would want for her (Avery thinks the same). Ross's reasons are quite simple, he's jealous of Avery and thinks he knows better Claudia for all the experience during the last two seasons, besides, she didn't want to change teachers and move forward in 1x19. As for Charlie, he denies it but surely Claudia's right, he didn't forget her slip up in Mixed Signals and as she said to him in Going Home, he is allowed to take something important away from her. Since that episode, once again he has to wake up everyday and go to sleep with the left side of the bed empty, and this time it's not his fault, he blames Claudia. Also, when Julia told him about Diana's doubts in college, he felt even more sure of not leaving Claudia change of school. He decides that she is too young to make that huge decision, and won't change his mind, despite Claudia's protests. In the last scene, Avery brings more recordings of Diana for Claudia, and tells her to play while listening to her, feeling her mother next to her (this was a perfect scene, as showed Claudia's tears, playing with her mother's melody). At the same time, Julia writes a letter to the novelist, thanking him for the review, but telling him that one day she may become a writer, as her future is not decided yet. These stories were really good because: Julia was worried of something important, her future career, and also needed her mother (as many times), Claudia felt connected to her mother through the melody, Avery's memories, and Charlie acted like a Father and a Brother (and not as an irresponsible womanizer, like he did with Emily, Kathleen and will do with Grace, Daphne, etc).
Bailey confides in Charlie about his infidelity (I think that Bailey's was worse than Charlie's in All's Fair, because the stage of the relationship), explains that Sarah is 16, in highschool, and the celibacy hurts their relationship because he is older. Charlie tells him not to tell her about the affair (he says the three times he confessed ended bad), not to split, and although Bailey agrees in not telling, he still plans to break up with her. Anyway, when he gets sick with chicken pox (how?), I could say that Diana sent Sarah to take care of him (Sarah had chicken pox and the Salingers not). Sarah proves to be a wonder girl and does everything to help him, even breaking in to the neighbour's dorm to turn off loud music, despite their fight in the last episode. Then, they have another because Bailey feels guilty, pushes her away, giving Sarah's gifts to Callie. By the way, about the roommate, she "doesn't do sick", so she refuses to help Bailey during his sicness. Later, he apologizes to Sarah, reaching her outside in the night, still with chicken pox and buying tickets for a concert. She tells him not to take her for granted, and she accepts his apology, because he ran through the streets sick only for her. This was another good story that shows how great Sarah is in this season. A small detail here, a bad point for the episode: Owen's absent. He was needed because overall the episode was serious and lacked funny moments.
