Naked (#6.2)
ComedyFan201011 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Cody doesn't want to let go of Claudia. Julia has trouble with the writing. Charlie and Kirsten can't have sex on their honeymoon and Bailey and Sarah have just sex instead of talking.

This is a bit less exciting and intense episode than most but it kind of starts leading to what the season will be about. Claudia as we see will now have new friends. This is pretty good as I like Alexa. And Julia will be going on self discovery to figure out why she let the thing with Ned happen.

Living in a Honeymoon
tomasmmc-771981 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The second episode of season 6 goes on and while some are still in holidays, others are starting their year. Bailey and Sarah, who seemingly (and incredibly) spent the last four months mad/sad at each other, living unhappily, now are living in a world apart, where they only have sex, avoiding their problems of commitment. Still, they also have their daily routine, she goes to Berkeley and he goes to AA and the restaurant. In one moment, she visits him at a meeting and his sponsor, John, greets her and wishes good luck for a class she had at college. Sarah tells Bailey that she's surprised of how people from AA know her, but he downplays the situation. At Salinger's, Bailey meets Joe, who stayed in SF after the wedding, and asks him to cover him one night so he can have a dinner with Sarah. While drinking, Joe asks to work a week and when Bailey shows concerns, he explains that he didn't say anything before because the wedding, but he and Franny are having problems and are separated. Bailey is generous and lets him work as much as he needs so he won't spend lonely days at the hotel. In a restaurant, Sarah tells Bailey that she feels lost, in college, in plan for her future, in life. He is clearly upset because he has been always close to her in the last 4 years, and living together in the last year. He tries to tell her that he is still there with her, so she shouldn't feel lost, she accepts it but ignores his sadness saying that was good to talk. Then, Bailey confides in Joe about his problems with Sarah, that he can't tell her how bad he still feels because if he does she'll resent him and they'll be distanced like in the last months. He says that she's allowed not to know what she wants for her life and he's not allowed to not feel bad about it. So Joe gives him advice, to sort out the problems talking because things are not ok, but in the night, Sarah wants to return to the world apart, seducing Bailey. Anyway, the problems with Sarah are not over, she is still young to choose Bailey for the rest of her life, even when he already chose her for the rest of his life. Then, meeting between Bailey, his sponsor and Sarah was a nice scene, it's like now she can't believe how important she has been for him. In AA, Bailey surely told wonderful things about her, about how is the young woman who saved his life. On the other hand, it was good to see Joe again acting like the uncle for the Salingers, this time for Bailey, because in the last two seasons, he was pretty absent. Without their father, the Salingers need Joe to be around. And despite that he was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure 4 years ago, now, after living a quiet life for the last years, surely he feels better, not like his heart is healed but at least is recovered enough to let him do a not stressful job. Obviously he can't work again full time at Salinger's as manager for 10 years, but for some maybe yes. Then, it's curious that Joe got married with Franny the episode before Charlie and Kirsten separated (3x11-12), and now he separates just when Charlie and Kirsten got married. It's not that the relationships are similar, are totally different, but is curious the timing.

As for the happy couple, they are in the real honeymoon for 11 days, in Mexico (they could have chosen somewhere else, considering the failed plan in season 2), not avoiding problems, but enjoying likely some of the happiest days of their lives. In the first days, she has Moctezuma's revenge, causing stomachache, while he has sunburn. Also, they have to hear how loud are their neighbours and turn up the radio to avoid them. Anyway, they are still happy together, playing cards (gin rummy), spending time in the beach, having lunch. Seems like she's winning the gin rummy and despite the little problems with his skin and her stomach they are spending a good time. While having breakfast, the waiter inadvertently tells them they have similarities between with a 30th anniversary couple in other table, as they ordered the same food (Charlie asked huevos albanil with tortilla and coffee black, Kirsten ordered mango crepes with orange juice and no ice) and they also play gin rummy. For this, they rush to have sex, trying to act like people their ages, but their setbacks make it not good. They both recognize that it doesn't matter as they will have sex one million more times, implying that they know their marriage is kind of unbreakable after all the things they have been through. She says this could happen one day considering they know each other so well, that there might be no more surprises, and when he express concerns, she says no pressure at all. About this, it's true how they feel, somehow they seem to be more like a 3rd-4th anniversary married couple (or even more) than newlyweds, considering all what they've been through in the last 5 years. I mean, which married couple overcomed cancer and manic depression? They obviously are a different kind, with a very unusual but deep love story that makes their marriage infinitely more stronger and solid than the rest. Anyway, back to the storyline, while they were both calmly reading, the crazy hot obsessed life of their neighbours interrupts again (they agree there's something wrong with those people), and Kirsten thinks they are getting tied, so Charlie asks her how she thought that so fast and if she tried that before. She said she did that with her last boyfriend before him (pre season 1), without denying that she liked it, which surprises him. Next morning, while they play shuffleboard (where seems that she's winning), he asks her why she never tell him before about the tied up thing and remembers that she asked him if he did it. He never did it and thinking in the present, he suggests they can try it to experiment new things. She accepts and later, when he orders clothes, she buys some scarves and silks for it. In the last scene, the best (because the soundtrack, their peace and joy, the chemistry), while lying in bed, they say they used slip knots for safety and both agree it was great, but he says that the one in Get Back is still the top best. She's really glad about it and jokingly says she'll reveal all her secrets so he tells her better no, just "surprise me". They are really happy, and considering all what they suffered between seasons 2-5, they deserve that happiness, that's why I enjoyed their story today. It's like in these 11 days they had a gained and very deserved honeymoon, a world apart, just for them. And they divided pretty well their time, at the beach (off screen), to play gin rummy or shuffleboard, to have breakfast, lunch and dinner, to have sex, to read. Besides, their scenes today were very well staged, set, especially with the sound of birds singing and some other beach, natural, mexican themes, that gave the characters the peace and happiness they have been looking for a long time. That's why I don't complain for the lack of drama here, enough was enough.

As for the rest, Julia is struggling with her book because the new college partners act in a mean and jealous way to her, and Evan (the editor) initially refuses to help her. Claudia comforts her, saying she can't do it alone, so Julia convinces Evan to help her, because if not, the book won't be as good as it could be. Although it wasn't totally entertaining, it was good to see that so far, Julia's relationship with her editor is just proffesional, besides, she is focused on writing, nothing else. In the meantime, Claudia befriends Alexa, her boyfriend Cameron and other popular people in Grant, after Cody tried useless attempts to reconcile, singing a song for her in class, making Claudia famous. Cody insists that they can figure out their issues, but Claudia reassures that they are in different places, they don't make sense. When Cody visits the house, Bailey says that he understands him, but he doesn't know how he can solve it. At the end, Claudia seemed sad of breaking up definitely with Cody (they spent last summer together), but like she said in last episode, he is older than her, and she is not ready for sex. I felt a little sorry for Cody, but still, they are who they are. And to finish, Daphne lost her job of telemarketing because she spent much time in the building's daycare center with Diana (seemingly that is what she did in last summer). It was good her story here, without Charlie and Kirsten, Daphne connected with her daughter in a way she didn't in season 5. She is proving her love, so Diana should be proud of her mother one day.
