Quotes

  • [last lines]

Claudia Salinger : [Claudia reaches Charlie in the shed]  I saw the light on. Pretty late.

Charlie Salinger : I know. I was just... I was just putting some stuff away.

Claudia Salinger : Listen, Charlie, about Seattle and all...

Charlie Salinger : Forget it, Claud. I'm uh... I'm not going.

Claudia Salinger : You're not? But you said that...

Charlie Salinger : I told Gwen I couldn't, and... she bought me out. It's a little over $15,000, with profit. Not much, but... It's a done deal.

Claudia Salinger : I'm sorry. I really am. I love you, Charlie.

[she hugs him and then he holds her]

  • [Charlie and Kirsten are in the backyard talking about the Seattle job]

Charlie Salinger : What do you think? Would you? Could you?

Kirsten Bennett : Seattle. It rains in Seattle... But I guess I can finish my dissertation anywhere.

[looking at Bailey and Julia in the kitchen]

Kirsten Bennett : But I'm not really the issue here, Charlie.

Charlie Salinger : Well, maybe it isn't an issue. I mean, the pros so outweigh the cons. They'll see that, right? And what, Bailey has one year of school left before he goes off to college anyway, and Claudia... Well, she's so young. Kids that age, they... They adjust pretty well to changes, right? They'll make new best friends in, like, a half an hour.

    [she smiles]

Charlie Salinger : And, Julia, she... Damn. I can't believe the way things work out.

Kirsten Bennett : Is the deal set yet? Well, maybe there's still time to make a few demands of your own, like keeping the company here.

Charlie Salinger : The factory's in Seattle.

Kirsten Bennett : Charlie, these people came to you because you have something they want.

Charlie Salinger : Right. That's true. Right. Right. They came to us. I mean, they need us on board if they want to sell our designs, so why should they be the ones to set all the conditions? Yeah. I mean, maybe if I put together a proposal or something.
