PANIC! – Patrol - 1958

This is episode 24 of the 1957-1958 suspense series, PANIC! Each episode was a story about a person involved in an incident of stress and panic. The series ran for a total of 31 episodes. Each episode starts with narrator saying, "You are about to witness a moment of panic in the life of a man".

This particular episode is about an Army patrol behind enemy lines. The patrol had been sent out to raid an enemy headquarters and grab as much info as possible. The group of men is returning to their own lines when 3 of them drop dead. There are no wounds and all 3 appeared to have died of a heart attack.

The men are at a loss as to what killed their comrades. They soon decide that one of them must be an enemy agent. They are all soon at each other pointing guns etc. Cooler heads prevail and they decide to continue back to their lines keeping a wary eye on each other.

Another of the group expires from unknown causes and the rattled men are on the verge of splitting up and heading back to their lines. The group is then ambushed by a small party of the enemy. There is a quick firefight with the enemy being wiped out while one of their own patrol is wounded. While tending to his wounds, they find a supply of poison needles. They did have an enemy agent among their number.

They bundle the guy up to return to their headquarters along with the info from the raid. They all realize just how close they came to killing one another.

The patrol members are, Mark Damon, Richard Bakalyan, Chris Alcaide, Richard Bull and Harry Dean Stanton.

Not the best episode of the series, but quite watchable.
