However Glover and Norman's resolve weaken due to starvation and some nice dessert bought to them.

Dr Thorpe is upset because Clegg the cook also goes on strike in protest of the patients behaviour.
I am not sure why this episode chose to make Figgis look two faced. Maybe the writer wanted to make a point about striking workers of that era. The episode also has Figgis and Glover arguing over class differences but Figgis comes over as a hypocrite at the end.
