- Ed is struggling to find his path in life and it doesn't help when Maurice wants to use his Hollywood contacts to organize a film festival. Joel's own path seems to have gone up in smoke when his truck ignites after he turns down Ruth-Anne's offer to join the volunteer fire department.—From DVD insert
- Ruth-Anne, as the newly elected volunteer fire department chief, asks Joel if would like to join the team. His medical expertise would be particularly useful. It doesn't take him long to turn her down saying the being a firefighter does not appeal to him in the least. Back at the office, he tries to rationalize his willingness to be a firefighter. Marilyn asks him to be quiet as she is trying to study CPR for her firefighter test. Later, Joel is driving down Cicely's main street when his pickup coughs and starts emitting smoke from under the hood. He lifts the hood and sees live flames. When he throws his jacket over it, it flares up even higher. He desperately calls the fire department, but they are busy trying to rescue a goat. Ruth-Anne has asked if any structure or lives were in danger and the dispatcher tells her no. She stays with the goat. Joel's truck suddenly explodes in a ball of fire. He is convinced that Ruth-Anne deliberately stayed away from his truck fire because he had turned her down earlier. He is mad enough that he wants to sue. Maurice has come up with another money-making scheme. He wants to build a big, full-service hotel but needs to have a draw for the potential guests. He has decided that a film festival is just what he needs. It worked wonders in Sundance. He asks Ed to put one together in short order because he'd like the get started on the hotel. It takes Ed a little while to come up with a theme for the event. He finally settles on Orson Wells films. He ordered prints of the films to screen privately for planning purposes. He also contacted Peter Bogdanovich, the famous Hollywood director, to be his keynote speaker. Peter just happens to be in Alaska for another matter and stops in to see Ed and meet Maurice. Maurice is rather skeptical that an Orson Wells festival will fly, but Ed says he'll have some new filmmakers, too. Maurice is too impatient. He fires Ed as the festival organizer and sends Peter home on the next plane, so he no longer has to cover his accommodation costs. Leonard tries to collect white myths that might help him heal white patients. He fails miserably as he listens to many urban myths.—Garon Smith
