You get a good glimpse of the marquees of shows playing on Broadway in the mid 1990's as Fran designs the costumes for a Broadway benefit that Maxwell is using scenes from an upcoming revival of "Our Town" which has Maxwell worried over how garish they will be.
Fran basically got the gig because Maxwell rushed her out of the house before she had a chance to exchange purses, leading her to get notices as a fashion "don't". it's very funny to watch Maxwell try to hide the magazine article with Fran inside from her as C.C. goes out of her way to make sure that friend sees it.
There's a lot of name dropping in this episode, especially Maxwell's never seen rival, Andrew Lloyd Webber. A slam at "Sunset Boulevard" is a gentle rib to the biggest blockbuster then on Broadway. For theater and costume design fans, this will be a dream episode come true. For those not into the world of Broadway, a lot of the references will not make an impact.
