The telecast was live from New York and was sponsored by ''C.A. Swanson and Sons of Omaha, Nebraska, packers of America's best-known brand of canned and frozen poultry.'' After a live commercial featuring Swanson chicken being fried, moderator Robert Q. Lewis wondered aloud who got to eat the chicken after the show, as he never got any.
The contestants were: Mr. A. KICK, Mrs. Mamie EISENHOWER (same name as the First Lady [whose husband's first inauguration was the same day as the telecast] and who was also a cousin of Dwight EISENHOWER) and Mrs. June GROOM. In the celebrity ''I'd Like to Be'' segment, actress Piper LAURIE wished she was movies' Francis the Talking Mule.
Guest star Piper Laurie was in New York City for the premiere of her movie, ''The Mississippi Gambler,'' on January 29, 1953 at the Loew's State Theatre.
