When Jim and Doris's dog, Trickster, passes away, the staff of FYI gather together for an intervention, leading to some very funny twists, and fun guest appearances by Janet Carroll, returning as Doris (getting to show off her beautiful singing voice, heard in many stage musicals) and Debra Mooney as the therapist that Jim goes to see, unable to express his feelings over his dog's death. While this seems to be making fun of the grief that people feel when they lose a beloved pet, it's actually done with great animal love and shows the softer side of each of the characters, including Murphy who reveals how she found out that her childhood dog, butterscotch, would not be home anymore. Charles Kimbrough stands out as the stuffy Jim, getting to show his heart underneath that stiff upper lip, and seeing the always charming Janet Carroll makes me wish that she had been on more episodes.
