Even in the nastiest of people, there's a human being. You just need a really big shovel to find it.

Warning: Spoilers
Jay Thomas returns as the unlikable Jerry Gold, a fictional version of Jerry Springer, hiding secrets of his charitable nature and shocking the staff of FYI when he convinces Murphy to go out with him. She has found out that he's given a great deal of money anonymously to a charity that provides meals for the elderly, and as they get to know each other, little hints of his humanitarian nature begin to be revealed. But he still a jerk in social settings, showing that two sides of one person are often in conflict with each other. It's as if the woman who mistook Freida Claxton's funeral on "Golden Girls" for someone else was actually talking about her, but as Murphy discovers, they have opposite points of view on life and certainly are not compatible, really even as friends. But at least she sees him in a different light now, and that's a different view of humanity that we don't always get to see. The loveable Pat Crawford Brown make a mark with her cameo as the nun who runs the charity serving the elderly, completely deadpan and sweet until she has enough of Gold in a key scene and utilizes one hysterical word to tell him off. Frank is very funny in disguise, following Murphy and Jerry around to try to get the low down on why she's seeing him socially.
