"Mork meets Robin Williams" was suggested by Robin Williams to Garry Marshall, so Williams could play himself as well as Mork, and viewers can get to know the real Robin Williams, and so Mork could learn about about the pressures of fame on Earth.
Mork doesn't say "Until next week. Nanu Nanu!" when he finishes his weekly report to Orson. Instead the scene fades to black when a teary Mork mentions celebrities who died tragically, such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, and John Lennon.
"Mork meets Robin Williams" was inspired by the murder of John Lennon, which occurred two months before its airing. Lennon was the last name Mork cited as an example of a celebrity who was a victims of their own fame.
