- A woman commits suicide and minutes later Captain Stottlemeyer is shot nearby. Monk needs to determine if the two events are related, but his new medication has turned him into an obnoxious jerk who can't concentrate on the case.
- While looking for someone Stottlemeyer is shot. They try to find the person and Monk has him but because of his condition he lets him go. He goes to Kroeger, who suggests that he try a new medication. He tries and his phobias are no more but he is no longer as observant as he was which makes him useless as a detective. - A police officer is arresting the biker Dewey Albert when Stottlemeyer and Randy arrive at the scene. Out of the blue, a car passes by and the driver shoots, hitting Stottlemeyer in the shoulder, gathering several police officers and Dewey flees in the havoc. Nearby, a woman committed suicide a couple of minutes before. Meanwhile, Dr. Kroger gives a new medicine to the reluctant Monk to reduce his CODs. When Sharona learns that Stottlemeyer was shot, she brings Monk to the hospital to visit his friend. Dewey is located and Stottlemeyer, Randy, Monk and Sharona leave the hospital meet the arresting team, but Monk fails and lets Dewey escape. He feels bad with the situation and decides to take Dr. Kroger's medication without reporting him as required.
