Tubbs refers to "Don Ho" and his "number one son." This is either a blown line by Thomas or a dumb mistake by the writer. Don Ho was a popular singer from Hawaii who had his own network variety show in the seventies. The "number one son" line is a reference to an ongoing story element in a long-running series of classic Hollywood films about the fictional Chinese detective Charlie Chan. Chan represented the traditional and older generation while his eldest son represented the current day American youth. The impetuousness of the son often caused problems but just as often stumbled on the key clue to the solution to the mystery.
