And with the end of the show the screen fades to black.

In this last episode of the series, a Washington insider, Frank Templeton, is making a visit to Italy to see how the war effort is advancing. Mr Templeton is a political big-wig that advances people where they are elected to office in Congress. And Binghamton is thinking about running for Congress if he can get the backing of Mr Templeton.

But Binghamton is going to need more than just a desk job, he needs to get in on some German action. So he becomes part of PT 73 crew and goes out hunting for Germans to advance his portfolio for Templeton.

This was an entertaining episode that makes a person wonder why they cancelled the series. This last season has been better than season three in the production of the shows and the action of the scripts. But like nearly all good programs, about four years and things start to age. But nevertheless, this show was interesting enough and could still produce funny lines. Just sorry that there will be no more episodes as we bid the entire cast a fond adieu. But will still be a part of the family through reruns.

Well done series finale

Warning: Spoilers
The last ep of McHale's Navy suffers drastically from too much inconsistency with previous shows and just plain ill-logic (still remembering it is a sitcom).

Inconsistency number 1: Binghamton is supposedly just a paper pusher of a military man even though in season one he bombed a Japanese island base and became a hero.

Inconsistency number 2: Col. Harrigan in an earlier ep previously saw McHale's men dress as Germans and when he catches them doing it this go around he does not mention the first time he caught them at that game.

Inconsistency number 3: Col. Harrigan himself actually gave McHale's men the very German Wermacht uniforms they wear in this ep in an earlier show when both he and the PT73 men were briefly captured by real Germans and then rescued. Yet, Harrigan never mentions that fact here either.

The just pure ill-logic comes in why Binghamton so bothered and faked this German-soldier bit when he could have merely just falsely put it on the record that he had gone out on patrol with the PT73 and they heroically sank a German sub.

Despite these flaws this ep is still great fun. Stanley Adams (Cyrano Jones in Star Trek's 'Trouble with Tribbles') turns in one of the finest near-great performances as a visiting Congressman. Also, there is good deal of action in this one in the second half.

Time to end it...

Season 4 proved M. N. had run its course. Moving the whole lot (including Binghamton and Carpenter) to Italy was not only a ridiculous scenario, but adding Henry Beckman and all the Italian nitwits just made a mess of the show. Even Conway, Hastings, and Flynn couldn't salvage it.

Stick a fork in it- it's DONE!
