Introduces the crew to the public.

It is always nice to have a starting point for any character in a show and this episode lets us see how Ensign Parker came into the fold and how, even from the beginning, Parker is strange. But thanks to the crew, Parker will slowly become a member of the best PT boat in the Pacific, McHale's Navy.

What has happened is that Binghamton has given newly assigned Parker one week to get McHale and his men into proper navy form or risk being transferred to the worse assignment in the entire Navy. When McHale gets wind of this action he tells his men to help the new Ensign out and for that week be real Navy seamen. With Binghamton's inspection just a few days away, the crew is going to have to reshape the entire island so that Parker will not get the boot.

Even though the story was a beginning point for most viewers, it just was not the most entertaining episode in the lot. The characters are still trying to find their niche and will soon bond as the show produces more and more stories. But for right now, this was a rather innocent story that introduces the crew to the public.

Parker joins the crew

Warning: Spoilers
A great way to have Chuckie become part of the crew... lots of fun (as usual).

McHale's crew has gone through countless ensigns in the past and Captain Wally Binghamton is looking forward to his latest ensign coming on board, our friend Charles Parker. After seeing Chuckie dress down a Marine guard, Binghamton has great expectations.

Of course, Parker's history is spotted with bungling in San Diego and other places, and Binghamton gives Parker one week to get McHale and his crew up to Navy snuff or he'll see that Parker is shipped of to the wilds of Montana, of all places.

McHale takes a liking to Parker right away and finds out about Captain Binghamton's plans for Parker, so he gets the crew to work for Parker for a week, and they surprise Binghamton... all with lots of fun (as expected) and even with a surprise visit from Fuji.

As expected, everything works out perfectly and Chuckie becomes a regular on McHale's Island. What else?
