THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. – The Quadripartite Affair – 1964

This is the third episode of 1964 to 1968 spy series, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. The series ran for a total of 105 episodes. The first season was filmed in B/W with the remainder shot in colour. Robert Vaughn plays agent Napoleon Solo while David McCallum plays Illya Kuryakin. Leo G Carroll plays Mister Waverly, the boss of the secret agency known as U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law & Enforcement) Their main enemy is THRUSH, an organization out to take over the planet.

In this episode of "Man from UNCLE", Thrush is developing a nerve gas that causes intense fear in all who come in contact with it. The Agents from UNCLE are sent to an unnamed island, where Thrush has their underground factory. Guest star Jill Ireland is brought along to lead them to the location.

The main Thrush types are played by Richard Anderson, Anne Francis and John Van Dreelen. The usual capture of the Uncle agents by Thrush happens. They of course pull a last minute escape and save the day by turning the tables on Thrush.

Villain's Francis and her consort, Van Dreelen, manage to escape capture here. They of course will reappear in a future episode. Jill Ireland and David McCallum, were a real life married couple at this time.

Great 60's television!

Warning: Spoilers
Certainly, not one of the better episodes of this usually terrific shows.

While this was the 3rd episode of the hit series, they are still explaining what UNCLE refers to as well as its objectives.

UNCLE is after that gas that when inhaled makes you frightened beyond belief. Ann Francis belongs to an evil group that is ready to spread this poison around. Miss Francis rarely appeared in the episode and as a result, her character was never fully developed. Did her husband really commit suicide?

As the daughter of a victim who was shot to death after he encountered the evil people, Jill Ireland had a much better part.

The action took place along the terrain of Yugoslavia and even the actions underground where the wicked are staying and experimenting were less exciting.
